Jean Torkelson joined the Rocky in 1992, moving from editorial writing to the religion beat in 1995. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she began a deliberately checkered journalism career, first as a television reporter at the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis/St Paul. For a year she was press secretary to the governor of Minnesota. She moved to Wales in 1979 to study journalism at City College, Cardiff. Before coming to Denver she had been a broadcast/TV critic and a general interest columnist for the Wilkes-Barre, Penn. Times Leader.
