And that’s good enough for Shank, Just a freshman, Shank picked up the Class 3A 112-pound state championship Saturday, edging Kurtis Romero of La Junta 3-2 in front of 17,803 fans at the Pepsi Center.

It easily was the most anticipated match of the Class 4A wrestling finals, if not the entire tournament. Dale Shull of Fort Lupton and Dan Frank of Roosevelt made sure their showdown between a pair of two-time defending state champions did not disappoint. Shull and Frank crammed an inane amount of drama and momentum shifts into their six-minute odyssey before Shull, shaking off the pain of a nagging ankle injury, outlasted Frank for a 6-5 victory in the 130-pound final.
