A Bennett man was arrested Friday evening after holing up in his house, and telling sheriffs' deputies that if they tried to apprehend him, he would "take out as many of them as possible."
Arapahoe County sheriffs arrested Eric Charles Fendelander, 53, of 45900 E. Harvard Ave., Bennett, on a felony count of attempting to influence a public servant.
The incident started Friday morning, when sheriffs deputies went to Fendelander's home to check on his welfare slightly before 10 a.m.
According to a sheriff's office news release, Fendelander had contacted a representative of the District Attorney’s Office and stated that if charges involving allegations of domestic violence against him were not dropped, he was going to “take them out.”
Deputies tried to contact Fendelander once they arrived at his house, but he hung up the telephone. When they called again, Fendelander allegedly told police that if police attempted to "sneak up on him," he would "take out as many of them as possible."
KUSA-TV reported on its Web site that Fendelander made repeated calls to the station, saying he was armed and would begin firing on deputies if the television station did not air information about his situation.
The station said it did not report on the situation while it was ongoing at the request of authorities.
At 4:15 P.M., the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to the scene. At about 7:45 P.M., as the suspect exited his home, he was taken into custody without further incident. Fendelander is being held at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detentions Facility on a $500,000 bond. He has a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
Numerous firearms and rounds of ammunition were removed from the residence.
