Boulder County sheriff's deputies who went to a Lafayette motel this week looking for a man wanted on two misdemeanor warrants put the case “in the bag” with a quick baggage check.

When they knocked on the door of the motel room, they were greeted by a woman who had a restraining order against the man they were looking for, said Cmdr. Phil West. The woman closed the door but reopened it a few minutes later and allowed the deputies inside.

In a corner, the deputies saw a suitcase that appeared to move, West said.

When officers started to unzip the suitcase, 54-year-old Wayne Pierce - the man they were looking for -tumbled out, West said.

Pierce was jailed on the original warrants accusing him of failure to comply with a court order and failure to appear in court, along with violation of the restraining order. The woman, who wasn't identified, was jailed on suspicion of being an accessory, West said.
