Newly hired Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz has been making the rounds, including checking on former Broncos defensive coordinator Bob Slowik. Slowik is expected to be the Lions' defensive backs coach, joining new defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham.
Former Broncos defensive line coach Bill Johnson, whom Broncos officials had hoped to retain, is in Mobile with the rest of the New Orleans Saints coaching staff. Johnson is coaching the team's defensive line.
Former Broncos assistants Steve Watson, Pat McPherson, Joe Baker, Jim Ryan and Ryan Slowik, who were fired shortly after Shanahan, have been in Mobile this week talking with teams about possible openings.
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?: Former Broncos quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates reportedly will be paid $1 million as Southern California's assistant head coach/quarterbacks.

Good luck Lions. An already crappy secondary is about to get worse! Slowic is terrible. I for one am glad he is gone.

Looks like Bates landed on his feet. He will be back in the Pros after a bit more seasoning. He will learn alot at USC, which has more talent than, say, the Detroit Lions.

At least the Lions will have the number 1 pick two years in a row. Bummer they let Steve Watson go. I wonder if that was a political move as well.

Good pick. Go to a team that won't win anyway. That way, your coaching doesn't look so bad.

Opinion, the high school teams here in central PA have more talent than Detroit.
Dehag, not if the league takes away a preseason game and adds a 17th game like they had talked about last year!
The only thing the Lions have going for them is they can blame the local economy (big three auto makers) for their struggles. Only downside to publicly doing that would be that they would be criticizing their owner.

This is my prediction of a response from Slowik after the Lions finish last in most defensive categories next season: "I don't have any solutions as to how to fix this."
"Having our CB's play 10 yards off the other teams WR on 3rd and long worked quite well when I was in Denver last year. I can't understand why that didn't work this year".
You can also take Webster, Bly and our crappy safeties with you to Detroit Bob. At least Gunther should know what he is doing. Good luck!
