CU climbs to No. 2 in number of grads in Peace Corps

More than 100 graduates of the University of Colorado at Boulder currently are Peace Corps volunteers, making CU the second highest contributor to the service organization in 2009.
Since the Peace Corps' conception almost 50 years ago, 2,157 alumni of CU-Boulder have served, Peace Corps director Ron Tschetter announced today.
CU ranks fifth all-time in its number of Peace Corps volunteers. The University of California at Berkeley is No. 1.
The University of Washington is the current No. 1, with 104 alumni serving right now. CU has 102 serving.
George Washington University ranks first in Peace Corps volunteers among middle-sized universities, with 57.
The University of Chicago is first among smaller colleges and universities, with 35 alumni currently serving.
CU-Boulder ranked No. 3 in the nation for the number of graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers in the 2008 rankings, and ranked sixth on the all-time list of top-producing schools.
"This is a great honor," CU-Boulder Chancellor Bud Peterson said. "It is a tribute to the thousands of our students and alumni who, over two generations, have translated their idealism and desire to serve into the betterment of communities around the world."
In all, some 3,000 colleges and universities have alumni working in the Peace Corps right now. They are placed in 76 different countries.

Meanwhile, CSU ranks 12 on the list with 54 graduates currently serving. Might have been nice to mention that in this story. Regardless, I hope future graduates of both schools consider the Peace Corps after graduating. It's an incredibly challenging and rewarding experience.
