Western Development Group, whose ownership includes Christian Anschutz, has purchased the half- block Village Inn site at 222 Columbine St., in Cherry Creek North.

Western Development wouldn't release the price, but public records indicate it created a company called 200 Columbine Associates LLC that on Dec. 31 paid for $6.25 million for the property. The property was sold by several partnerships including Bill Moore and Peter Niederman, owners of the Kentwood Co.; retired cable TV pioneer Fred Vierra and his wife, Roxanne; and Kentwood Co. Realtors Jerry and Sandra Weigand, according to records.

The Village Inn site ultimately will be developed into a mixed-use project similar to the nearby NorthCreek development, said David Steel, a partner at Western Development. Details such as the completed size, features and timetable have not been set.

Short-term, people already have contacted them about operating a restaurant in the vacant Village Inn building, he said.

"It probably will be a restaurant that serves comfort-type food," Steel said. The lease probably would have a demolition clause that would require the restaurant to vacate the building when the company is ready to start development, he said.
