Left-handed starter Jeff Francis underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Wednesday to repair the labrum and clean up the rotator cuff.
Dr. Thomas Noonan performed the surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Greenwood Village. Francis is expected to miss the season but could be ready by September, which would give him a chance to test the shoulder in game conditions before the offseason.
NEW AGENT
Ryan Spilborghs, projected to be the starting center fielder, is being represented by agent Scott Boras, who represents former Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday.
Spilborghs had been represented by a group headed by former Dodgers general manager Dan Evans.
"Sometimes you just make a change," Spilborghs said.
HE SAID IT
"I'm just going to watch him play."
Clint Hurdle, Rockies manager, on outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with a double and played some center field.
BY THE NUMBERS
3 Rockies spring training games will be shown on a one-hour delay by MLB Network. The MLB Network schedule includes Rockies games in Tucson against Cleveland on March 22, Milwaukee on March 23 and the Cubs on March 28. The telecasts will start at 2 p.m. MDT.

Why do players of all sports continue to wait until the beginning of the season to have corrective surgery rather than at the end of the previous season? I would think they would want to err on the side of caution to not, like Francis, run the risk of missing the entire season. Go figure!
