Radio host Boyles mum on crude reference to DeGette
By David Montero, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Published February 24, 2009 at 12:05 a.m.
Radio host Peter Boyles said he's been asked by Clear Channel officials to not talk about his crude reference to U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette.
He said management at KHOW-AM (630) asked him on Wednesday to stop saying "Vagina DeGette" on the air.
But publicity by media and liberal-leaning Colorado Media Matters continued to keep the incident in the public eye and, in turn, the slur alive.
"I've been asked not to talk about it anymore, and so I won't," Boyles said after his Monday broadcast.
"I'm done with it."
The controversy started after President Barack Obama came to Denver last Tuesday to sign the $787 billion stimulus bill at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. During introductions, the president mispronounced the name of Diana DeGette, calling the Denver Democrat "Diana DeJette."
Boyles took the opportunity to make fun of the president the following morning by taking the mispronunciation even further - calling her Vagina DeGette.
He said on the air: "It was funny to me. It remains funny to me. I'm not apologetic."
DeGette's office had little comment.
"Vulgar and demeaning personal attacks have no place in our political discourse," said Kristofer Eisenla, DeGette's spokesman. "Therefore, we have no comment."
And from now on, Boyles won't either.
"I don't think he disagreed with (the decision)," said Kris Olinger, Clear Channel's director of AM programming. "It's done. It's over."
But Boyles did spend large chunks of his show Monday talking about the incident.
He told one caller on the air that this was a way for critics who don't like his views on illegal immigration, Mayor John Hickenlooper and Gov. Bill Ritter to get back at him.
"They can't get you for the other stuff, so they get you for this one," he said.

So they can cry foul when a WHITE woman is verbally insulted, but disregard when an hispanic woman is dragged to her death with her face nearly torn off. No community leaders came to her defense and took on her cause. Apparently she wasn't the caliber of Degette. If it's not about race...then I guess it's okay to kill a woman as long as you don't insult her.
It's a double whamming for Peter; 1, a Congress woman
2, A Democrat
Maybe Boyles will be replaced by an hispanic commentator

Peter Boyles is a very intelligent, articulate guy. Maybe pride got in the way of his usual good common sense on this Diana Degette business. I don't like Degette much myself, She's more of a cheerleader than a legislator and even after all these years in congress, She still seems more like an echo of the Woman she replaced. I'm a lifelong Democrat, and this woman creeps me out. She doesn't seem to get it in real time.
I hope she's finds a job more to her liking and gives the job to someone better qualified to help Colorado in Washington.

You make it seem like he is doing wrong by dropping the subject, I reject that premise.

For someone who wants to appear to "intelligent" and well-read, this sort of banter is nothing more than adolescent bathroom humor. I stopped listening to Mr. Boyles long ago when it became apparent that he's more interested in thinly spun conspiracy theories (Obama wasn't born in Hawaii) and hate-filled messages about the border politics (read: don't let any of those filthy Mexicans in this country). Oh, and let's not forget how he promoted the "Recreate '68" crowd prior to the DNC, then ducked his tail under his a** by complementing the police on "what a great job they did" handling that situation. Uh-huh. Like he wasn't hoping for some sort of disaster while they were here.
Unfortunately, there are enough people out there who share these beliefs and keep him on the air. Peter Boyles has been an embarassment to talk radio for a long time. He's a bore.

I agree that Boyles comment is rather sophomoric but would suggest that it was deliberately that stated way. In view of all the negative that degette has done for Colorado it may be a vehicle to finally get her out of office. After all Colorado, ritter, hickenlooper, degette, etc did to get the DNC here, to promote obama in his successful campaign and then find out that he isn't even aware of who his big cheerleaders were in Colorado indicates that, perhaps, neither are worth keeping in office.

Why is it that Boyles has trashed virtually every Democrat in Colorado, going back to Hart, Pena, Romer, Ritter , Hickenlooper and DeGette. Boyles is the biggest hypocrite in Colorado, he uses his past to claim some sort of fairness and gain creditability , but he is nothing more than a mouth piece for right wing conservatives.

She is in a completely safe Democratic district. She's got the job security of s Supreme Court Justice. That's a fact. She'll leave the job either when they haul her dead, 100 year old carcas out of her office or when she gets tired of the position and wants to step up to a more powerful or lucrative job. What do you think that refering to her as a female body part is going to do to change that fact? My suggestion is that if you don't like DeGette (and I don't), don't live in her district (and I don't).
Get a clue. Boyles said what he said because he was desperate for controversy. Controversy drives ratings. Since there are no hot illegal alien or kiddie beauty pagent murders in the news, he had to manufacture some kind of controversy to generate interest in his show.

I don't care what PB calls Hamblin or Mike Rosen. Let's face it. He makes his living as an entertainer, but his type of entertainment is based on getting you worked up. That's the most boring type of talk radio there is, but these jocks have made a pretty good living off of manipulating your emotions.
And, yes, if you don't go along with his version of reality, he will cut you off. Basic talk show intolerance. But that's the way the game is played.
Sorry, it's nothing but sports talk radio for me. Life's too short for that rubbish on the Clear Channel stations.

In the midst of two unfinished empire building wars without end, our economy in shambles and the echos of "hope" and "change" slowly fading out - this topic is idiotic. Listen to "Comedy Central" with Jon Stewart and "Colbert Nation"; they say and do things at times that make me blush. Ditto some of the other late night tv personalities.
For those who claim they never listen to Peter, it's amazing how quickly those very same folks surface and are always offended by anything he says or has said. They take "righteous indignation" to a whole new level. Thank heaven, it's not to be mentioned again.

It would be different if her first name were Virginia or Regina. But it's Diana. Not very clever or funny, just juvenile.

Since I've worked in close proximity to him at times, I know plenty about how "Peter" refers to those people and others. My point is that he is typically pretty 2 faced, polite to people's faces and rude when they're not around. Behind the scenes, he's not the "GOOD GUY" some may believe him to be. His on-air persona is often 180 off from the real Pete. Many people who work around him are aware that they have to watch their backs around him. He's got a reputation in the business.
It's sad that this is what his career has come to. He has to create controversy through vulgar name-calling rather than through thoughtful discussion and debate.
I agree, Diana Da-Jett is pretty funny, just like the Biden "stand up!" video.

BigRich - you misinterpret my remark. I abhor off-color, vulgar humor in this setting. I don't much enjoy it at comedy works either, for that matter. I was certainly not defending boyles remark rather the opposite.
Any vehicle to get d degette out of office would be a boon to colorado. Obviously the president doesn't much about any one of us. Elected obama supporting politicos included. Support for her in her district is strong, obviously, but it appears that she's been innefectual for some time now, hence a good reason for her to be dumped. This goes for all incumbents. After their first term they start representing some arcaine agenda that isn't for the good of their constituents.
