DENVER INC. Aurora wants name recognition

The sprawling Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora might actually get some mention that it is actually in Aurora.
The City Council has been trying to get the name Aurora to be included in the official moniker of the campus, to no avail.
But elected officials do have jurisdiction over the naming of streets, and they are floating a measure to change the name of a part of Ursula Street, leading into the campus, to Aurora.
A couple of more meetings and the name could be changed.
Councilman Bob FitzGerald told the Aurora Sentinel that it might cause workers and businesses in the center to reorder letterhead and business cards, but that's a small price to pay to get Aurora front and center.
"I think it makes sense. People, when they turn in and go down the main drag, should see Aurora, Aurora, Aurora," FitzGerald told the Sentinel. "I think this is a good move. It gives Aurora some notoriety, and it's a way to function with these folks."
Brewer boosts biking
The workers at New Belgium Brewing know how to have a good time. OK, admittedly it's not all that hard to do: They work at a brewery, after all.
But they are environmentally conscious and pretty clever to boot.
The Fort Collins-based company has launched an interactive online blog for its 15,000 Team Wonderbike members, who pledge to bike instead of drive as often as possible - assuming, of course, they don't do either after tossing back a couple of Fat Tires.
The brewery released its list of top 10 Marvelous Reasons Why Our Employees Love to Ride.
To motivate, inspire or just for a chuckle, here they are:
10. Burn fat, not oil. - Casey Kjolhede
9. Riding gives me a reason to show off my freshly shaven legs. - Michael Reynolds
8. I ride because it is like a movie I make by moving my legs.
- Bill Hepp
7. Never pay to park. Never circle the block looking for a parking spot. The closest I ever get to a parking meter is with my bike lock.
- Jared Hirsch
6. Riding helps my daughter know she, too, can save the Earth.
- Tracey Callaghan
5. One time a mother goose flew after me while I rode my bike down by the river in the springtime. Now that's fun! I've never been chased by a mother goose while driving a car.
- Garth Bontrager
4. I ride because my troubles can't catch me when I'm on two wheels.
- Jeremy Walker
3. Riding by bumper-to- bumper traffic will make any rider smile.
- Nick Ampe
2. I ride because it takes just about as long to drive five miles through town and park.
- Burny Finkle
1. Calves like these don't grow on trees.
- Tracey Callaghan

Access to debates
Broomfield's Level 3 took a center stage, or behind the stage and in a back room, presence Friday in the presidential debates. The company was picked by Fox Interactive Media to provide streaming video of all four of the 2008 presidential debates, which began Friday night in Oxford, Miss.
It's the same technology that Level 3 used last month during the Democratic National Convention. Online viewers will be able to access live video of the debates at MyDebates.org, powered by MySpace.

SteveM writes:
If Aurora were smart, they'd be floating the Twin City concept and trying to get people here to call the region Denver-Aurora just like Dallas-Ft. Worth or Minneapolis-St. Paul. What they need is a sports team! The Aurora Borealis would be very cool. Next, every time they mention the region in their newspapers, they need to use the expression, "the twin-city region of Denver-Aurora" instead of the Denver metro region. They also need to start working on a more distinctive down-town. The city leaders should go to St. Paul and take a look at what St. Paul is vs. Minneapolis. It has it's own character that is very different. When they built the arena for the Wild it made a big difference in civic pride as well. Go Aurora, right on, but you've got to have something really going before you can get the recognition you desire, and right now, you don't have it, and 225 is a mess. Why don't you pay to convert at least one of the emergency lanes on each side into a real lane and open that thing up!?!?!? Right now, the reputation of your city is all about avoiding 225, which is not what you want.
