Train hits man 7 hours after he was hit by car

The man clipped by a train early this morning in Boulder had been hit by a car about seven hours earlier, police say.

But he's still alive, and Boulder police are suggesting today is the day for him to buy a lottery ticket.

Robert Evans, 46, told investigators he was released from Boulder Community Hospital about 3 this morning after being treated for injuries in an apparent hit-and-run about 10 p.m. Tuesday at Folsom Street and Canyon Boulevard.

Evans, who is homeless, was returning to his campsite when, at about 4:45 this morning, he decided to take a short cut across a narrow bridge meant only for trains.

Instead of walking a short distance down Boulder Creek to a bridge meant for people, Evans took his bike across the narrow train bridge, Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.

That's when the Burlington-Northern train hit him. A railing on a staircase attached to the front of the train apparently clipped him and he fell about 10 feet, landing face-down in the creek, she said.

The train's engineer heard him before he saw him.

Based on the short distance the train traveled before it ground to a halt after hitting Evans, the train seemed to be going quite slow, as is required as trains go through Boulder, Huntley said.

Evans faces a possible ticket for trespassing on the bridge, which runs about 50 feet.

Pearl Street and Valmont Road at the 4700 block were closed for about three hours while engineers worked on moving the train.

Whenever a train is involved in an incident the operating crew, i.e. engineer and conductor, cannot continue running the train. They get a three day "vacation" while the drug tests are processed. Even though it is obvious as all get out that the komrade on the track was at fault, the train crew is still dope tested. Therefore, the amount of time needed to move the train, besides the cop's investigation, was to assemble another train crew and bring them from Denver (probably) up to the PDRB.

Did I miss the part where the article said anything about A) Obama, or B) this guy now not voting for whatever candidate he chooses? And furthermore, IMO, this guy sounds a little more like a voter for another ticket; most of the supporters of that ticket seem just as Clueless!

Speaking as someone who has tried to register Democrats in Boulder, to say you're full of it Duckster would be a gross understatement. No, we aren't trying to register homeless people to vote (you need to prove you're a resident, something that's difficult to do if you don't have a job and don't have a listed address for one thing). Most of the homeless guys in Boulder are true transients, meaning that they don't live here permanently and are only here for a while before moving on. Then you mention that he's probably a criminal. If he had committed any felonies he couldn't vote anyway.

Most of the people getting registered to vote are young adults who haven't voted before.
