The Colorado School of Mines Foundation received a $1 million gift Wednesday from the Anadarko Foundation, a nonprofit operated by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. of Houston with oil and gas projects in Colorado.
Half the money, or $500,000, is slated for the construction of Marquez Hall, a new petroleum engineering facility, and the other half for the school's department of geology and geological engineering.
Anadarko's gift brings total funds raised for Marquez Hall to more than $20 million. The building is scheduled to break ground next spring. Denver oilman Timothy Marquez and his wife, Bernadette, have pledged a record $10 million to the building that will bear their name.
