Wyoming may play Nebraska at Invesco Field

The Rocky Mountain Showdown might not be dead after all. Different, maybe, but not dead.
University of Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman said Tuesday discussions are being held with Nebraska on a multiyear series agreement that could include one game at Invesco Field at Mile High.
"We view Denver as a great market for the University of Wyoming," Burman said. "Our fan base can travel there easily, and we have a lot of alumni living in the area. It makes some sense."
Burman said he has talked with the Metro Denver Sports Commission about playing a game at Invesco Field but called the proposal in the "infancy stage."
"It's got a long way to go," he said. "I don't expect anything to happen for weeks, if it happens at all."
Starting in 1998, Colorado and Colorado State played nine games in Denver - three were at old Mile High Stadium and six at Invesco Field - but both schools have opted to play the next two games at their respective home stadiums.
CU and CSU are not scheduled to meet on the football field beyond 2010, leaving the door open for the boys in Laramie, located about 21/2 hours northwest of Denver.
Burman said the guaranteed revenue for a game in Denver would have to be substantial to give up a home date in Laramie. Like Wyoming, many Nebraska alumni live in Colorado, making it realistic for Cornhuskers and Cowboys fans to fill the 76,000-seat Invesco Field.

Here is my point. Having a game in Denver where two schools out side the state should meet is bad for area teams. Nebraska should not play here. I know there is a lot of you here but Cal vs. Texas here is just as dumb. If anything Denver needs to host the Big 12 championship game or a bowl game. Especially not Nebraska, horrible idea.

I think a Wyoming-Nebraska game in Denver would be great. I'd definately come from California for that one. It would be great for NU recruiting too.

People in Nebraska have been pushing for Denver to host the Big 12 Championship game since day 1. It's the Texas schools that won't do it. They don't even like it in KC.
And Cal-Texas is the same as Nebraska-Wyoming. Riiight.
I think the two schools are trying to find a way to play each other so that both schools can have at least some of the revenue for all the games they play in a series. NU needs 7 home games a year to fund the rest of their athletic program, and it is getting harder and harder to find a team that will play in Lincoln exclusively, everyone wants a home-and-home.

If you don't want Nebraska to play in Denver - the fertile recruiting ground that it is - then have CU man up and continue to take on CSU at Mile High!
The Buffies created this opening by running back to Folsom for the Shootout, so don't start crying now that other teams come walking into the "House That Elway Built!"
Go Big Red!

Hey Jare,
I have been a big Buff fan since 1986! But I will tell you that CU is not even close to the class football program Nebraska holds. Get a clue and look at the series record. Nebraska has owned CU and will continue. Let them play in Denver so the good people of Colorado can enjoy a dynasty.

I agree that this game would hurt both CSU and CU. These schools already desperately need more fan support, and the Rocky Mountain Showdown in Denver is one of the only remaining events that spark interest in these football programs.

I always love comments from people like "ColoradiansforNebraska" regarding what a "class" program Nebraska runs. How soon you forget the Lawrence Phillips episodes, the Christian Peter episodes and the failure of Saint Thomas Osborne to respond as any decent human being should have by canning both of them. When the New England Patriots found out what Mr. Peter had done during his high school and college years, they rescinded their draft choice. But he started every down for the Big Red. Lawrence Phillips was convicted in 2007 for trying to run over a group of people with a car - sentenced to 20years.
And it goes all the way back to Johnny Rodgers who pulled a robbery in Lincoln but managed to play all four years and never miss a game.
Every major college program has troubles and troubled people. Stop acting like Lincoln is the land of Oz and it is all apple pie and Mom and you have the best fans, the best team, yada yada yada. BTW, I was at Folsom when your classy fans hung up the "Where's Sal?" sign - a reference to a CU quarterback who died of cancer at 22 years of age. Lots of class.

Worry about your own program, and stop trying to tear down others.
Folsom is a beautiful place to play, but it is too bad that a lot of the CU fans do not mirror the setting with their behavior!

What's the problem, conegaca, does the truth hurt? And what exactly should CU fans learn from Nebraska fans - to hoist banners celebrating the death of a rival's quarterback?
Or maybe emulate the fans in Lincoln in 1992 after the Halloween massacre, who threw beer on the CU players as they left the field. Behavior like that?
Don't give me your self-righteous nonsense. You and your fans are no different and no better than any of the other 100+ Division 1A programs. You aren't special and you aren't anointed. Get over yourselves, please.

I have been to many games in Lincoln and never ONCE been able to buy a beer in the stadium. Are you sure it wasn't the night game in 91 when we were throwing snowballs and oranges at Nebraska every time they were on our end?
But thank go our fan's are so much better than NU. You remember that time they were acting so classy the ENTIRE student section was removed from the game!!! We are the ONLY school in history to ever have that done. Were #1 again!!

I can understand CU people being upset about this, they hate Nebraska (NU 46 - CU 18) and who would want that in your own back yard? But let's not compare fans (as if there is a comparison). CU fans are either rich east coast/west coast kids or fair weather fans, rude and without class (throwing ice/snow/fruit on field, student section removed, peeing on opposing fans! Classy). Plus, CU has to advertise on pop cans and basically give away tickets to Folsom, which holds about half of Memorial Stadium and NU has 292 straight sellouts. That's called loyalty, which CU doesn't have and never will. Hate NU all you want, but you can't honestly compare the fan support and amount of class. Every team that comes and plays says it's the classiest fans ever, except CU. That's CU being green with envy and we all know it.

Sounds to me like CU fans are just scared. There would be no problem for NU to sell out Invesco. The consistenly put 84,000-86,000 in Memorial Stadium. And for those of us that remember the last time we played in South Bend it felt like a home game with so much red. I think that CU doenst want to be shown up by having a team from out of state coming in a selling out a stadium that they cant fill.

You know that really bugs me when cu fans pop off at the lip and think there so much better, now don't get me wrong Nebraska does have their rogue fans that also give other Nebraska fans a bad name but we are good fans and respect other teams and their fan base, Lincoln is only one of maybe a few places where you will see the home team clap for the opposing team if Nebraska looses, so all you self righteous cu fans quit with the were better than u crap all right!
