Another illegal immigrant case rocks Aurora
By April M. Washington, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Published September 11, 2008 at 7:12 p.m.
Aurora police said Thursday that for the second time in a week they have arrested an illegal immigrant after a highly dangerous crash on the city's streets.
Officers arrested Hipolito Vasquez Rojas, 19, after he and a 16-year-old male accomplice allegedly stole a car, crashed into a police car, plowed into a tree and then led officers on a foot chase Wednesday night.
Rojas, who police say is a gang member, was deported in April following his release from the Adams County Jail after serving time for auto theft. It is not known how he turned up five months later in connection with a robbery and shooting.
"This is a reality for our police officers every day. We are getting beat up as to why we're not doing more? The question posed to ICE should be why isn't more being done to shut down the porous border?" said Aurora Police spokesman Bob Friel.
Court and police records show that Rojas has an extensive criminal history, including 30 felony and misdemeanor arrests mostly in Aurora for eluding police, auto theft and illegally possessing a weapon and other charges.
Rojas was also wanted by Adams County for failure to appear in court on an auto theft charge and on a national extradition warrant.
He now is being held for investigation of first-degree attempted homicide, criminal intent for first-degree assault and auto theft, police said.
Police did not identify the juvenile arrested with him. He could face similar charges as an adult, Friel said.
ICE spokesman Carol Rusnok said Rojas was kicked out of the country April 18.
Rusnok said it's a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison to re-enter the country after being deported. ICE has placed another hold on Rojas based on his most recent arrest.
The chase and arrest come on the heels of the Sept. 4 fatal hit-and-run accident involving an illegal immigrant who remained free despite nearly 20 arrest in five years.
Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said it's fortunate that Wednesday's shooting didn't lead to a similar tragedy.
"Obviously, we are extremely fortunate that the round of gunfire missed," Oates said. "Had it struck and killed someone would we all be here looking at the next Francis Hernandez case?"
Wednesday's crime spree began around 1 p.m. when Rojas and the teen allegedly tried to steal a white Chevrolet Blazer from the parking lot of a business near Interstate 70 and Tower Road.
As an employee tried to stop the car theft, Rojas allegedly shot at him with a handgun, grazing the worker's shirt.
Aurora police did not release the identity of the worker, who was not seriously hurt.
Rojas and the youth allegedly stole a Honda Civic from the parking lot and later crashed it into a tree in the 9800 Block of East Colfax Avenue.
They ran from officers and were later arrested separately about three blocks away.

The illegals are invading our country. There are 2 things we need to do to take back our country. We need to SEAL THE BORDER and we need to dry up the jobs. The border needs to be a no man's land DMZ type of operation. However if they do manage to get across, the penalties for hiring them need to be so severe that jobs will just not be available. Right now, the reward is so much greater than the risk, that they just come back, even if deported. And there is always someone who will hire them, because again the risk is so low and the reward so great that employers don't care if they get caught with a couple of illegals on the payroll.

This is another example of the failure of Democratic leadership to keep folks safe. People need to look at the leadership in sanctuary cities across America their elected officials are in the Democratic Party. The taxpaying public's safety is secondary to the rights of illegal immigrants and gangsters.
This policy will carry forward onto the national level if the Dems get into the White House.
Hickenlooper and Ritter proudly proclaim Denver and much of Colorado a sanctuary for illegal immigrants at the cost of public safety.
Its obvious the public's safety is up to themselves, learn how to protect yourselves.

We also need to terminate the people who allow these people onto the system to defraud the american taxpayer.

With former mayor Pena supporting amnesty and showing up at the rally supporting illegals, with mayor Hinckenlooper's restaurants hiring illegals that murder police officers, with a Denver city council that refuses to protect our citizens, with a governor who used to plea bargain the illegals criminal cases and set them free to go on to commit greater crimes like rape, good luck trying to stop the illegals who are criminals. If the politicians support them, employ them, refuse to protect the citizens, set them free to reoffend, it looks to be a losing battle. I don't see an end to the problem anytime soon folks, they've even flooded our state prisons with 4000 illegals, our schools are spending millions to educate in 2 languages, most of the lower paying jobs are going to illegals instead of our children or our poor, I'd say they just about own Colorado; except for the high paying white collar jobs held predomonately by anglos, the rest of Colorado from construction to fast food belongs to the illegal for the taking. In many ways illegal immigration is hurting the people who can least afford it, America's minority community. Seems my people favor the illegal and thier cheap labor, over thier fellow Americans, just like Hickenlooper and Ritter. Anglos also weather recessions better than the minority community. It's not right, but with many minorities dropping out of school, those jobs are very much going to be in demand, and with the illegals taking them, these jobs will be hard to come by in America for Americans. I think America takes care of Americans first, especially our minority communities where education is sometimes not equal to the majority. Almost a 50% drop out rate amongst hispanic Americans alone, now you give the jobs that belong to them in construction and other areas to illegals because thier labor is cheaper? Before I'm accused of being racist, consider what I'm saying when I say I want to protect the jobs of all Americans including the minority community. My people need to step up to the plate and protect those of all races who are less affluent and thier own fellow countrymen first. No amnesty, no more illegals, we take care of our own people first, both with education as well as job security. When the American economy goes south, minorities are the hardest hit with unemployment. They deserve better, they desrve a decent wage and a future for thier families, not someone who breaks or laws and illegally seeks to undermine our own citizens economic future. Maybe I'm wrong, but I want all Americans to have a piece of the pie first, especially when this economy dumps. I've seen many things in my many years, I want America to take care of thier citizens first, regardless of race. I don't want my tax money spent on the higher education of an illegal if there is one American regardless of race being turned away.

I HAVE, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK or go get in line with your buddies at the local assistance office and tell them the tide is turning!!
Here is a small example of PUBLICLY FUNDED PROGRAMS TO HELP ILLEGAL / UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS . . . . Several states -- Texas, California, New York, Utah, Illinois, Washington, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas -- have passed state laws providing in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens who have attended high school in the state for three or more years. Similar legislation is pending in Florida, Hawaii, Maryland (legislation passed, but awaiting governor's signature), Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. (Connecticut and Wisconsin also passed such a law, but their governors vetoed it. Thanks to those governors!) The Nevada system of higher education does not consider immigration status for in-state tuition, but does require it for a state-sponsored scholarship. Also, some schools in Georgia provide in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens. The Texas law also allows illegal aliens to receive state student financial aid.
And all of these programs are supported by who, the U.S. TAXPAYER!!

One of which has a son defending this country, and your lib @ss, in Iraq. We're not talking about folks who are here legally. We're talking about criminals who would run YOUR lib @ss over and leave YOU to die.
You are correct about no publicly funded programs to help illegals. They don't need them. They're su*king the system dry in taking advantage of everything the citizens pay for ... hospitals, schools, our roads and every other damned thing they can work the system for. Not to mention what it costs to prosecute, house and feed the thousands of illegals in our jails and prisons. When was the last time we saw an illegal with auto insurance? Who do you think pays for the carnage when an illegal kills a child and two women as was the case last week? Who pays for it? Illegals commit serious crimes at a rate three and a half times the rate of any other group in this country. You want to deffend that on the basis of "they're human beings too"?
There is no defense for illegals. The very first thing they do to get here is break a law. And, it sure as hell looks as if that does not change once they are here.
Go sell it somewhere else. There are one set of rules and they have to play by ours. We break the law, we go to jail. They break the law, they go to jail ... then they go home.

Assign personal liability for knowingly hiring illegals, provide a mechanism to prove it, and then throw a few CEO and HR ppl in jail for hiring illegals, and it will come to a stretching halt. In addition, start deporting ppl to africa, say ethiopia, rather than sending them into Mexico (mexico will provide a bus ride to the southern border for none mexicans). When illegals realize that if caught they are not likely to make it back to their family, then they will leave.

Mandzoco, thank you for setting Sanviandme straight, not only did TIME magazine this year do a big spread on illegals recieving in-state tuituion to college; but spoke how many Americans , minorities included were being turned away while the illegal was recieving tax money to go to college. Several states shut it down, but only after the practice hit the media. Thier free healthcare is killing hospitals, they have cost our educational systems millions in our state alone at a time when the money is sorely needed for our own citizens. They have accidents everyday leaving many injuried or killed with no financial liabilities. there are many areas they are putting states in extreme economic hardship. It's time to enact stricter penalties like other countries and cities here in America. For instance, if a landlord could lose his property for the property being used illegally to house illegals, much like cars and property are siezed from drug convictions for it's illegal use, where are they going to live. Some countries charge employers 30,000 dollars for every illegal caught in thier employ. I think that's an excellent amount, make it manditory in addition to charging the owner with a felony for each one the second time around getting caught. Since there are nations like Mexico who have hundreds of thousands of illegals already in America, it's time to suspend legal immigration from this nation since thier presence here far exceed immigration quotas. Next, if Latin America with thier great oil wealth keep refusing to help thier people since there is no middle class there, maybe America should suspend NAFTA with them. It's time to force the wealthy in power getting rich in Latin America to take care of thier people and quit exploiting thier own people's poverty. Property confiscation, higher fines on employers, suspending immigration from nations whose illegal in our country exceed our quotas as established by immigration first; if it works to stem illegals from breaking the law and illegally entering our country, then we can talk about amnesty. Like the new law in Denver, the voters hold the keys to government; the tax money being used to send illegals to college over Americans also was voter approved. It's all in the wording as to if it stands up to court challenges. The property confiscation in one small town has held up thus far, you can be held accountable if you allow your property to be used for illegals to live in violation of the law, because your acually aiding and abetting an illegal using the property for that purpose by renting to them. Sad the voters have to pass such draconian laws, or maybe even shut down immigration altogether like Europe, but illegals are costing the taxpayers plenty at a time when America needs to take care of our own people. That's not racist, it good common sense since it affects all Americans regardless of race.

A good point that is not made often enough; Those who come here illegally from South of the border tarnish the image of the entire law-abiding hispanic community.
Because we are human beings, we lack telepathy that would allow us to distinguish between a legal immigrant and an illegal alien who, for all intensive purposes, look the same. Add to that the fact that we know there are hundreds of thousands of illegals here, and they're the faces we keep seeing when crimes are committed more than any other group, and you end up with prejudice toward an entire race.
I would think the hispanic population that is here legally would be just as, if not more, outraged than the rest of us. They're the ones who'll suffer if people ever start taking matters into their own hands regarding this problem, committing hate crimes and otherwise lashing out against a very visible group of people.
I'd like to hear from those bleeding hearts on this point now. Tell me, what is your solution for this, since no matter how you try, you can't stop others from judging and even acting on that judgement.

For you sixth grade Republicans, it's the Federal government under a Republican president who sets the budget for ICE. You are willing to give up a few dead as long as your Happy Meal doesn't go up by fifty cents.
Another thing is that you must remember that the overwhelming number of Hispanics are very religious and respect the law, whether they are in the US as citizens or illegal. They work very hard, even though they are exploited by righteous Republican employers who don't pay what they should and don't pay taxes that are required. For all of the talk about how illegals cost the government, the fact is that illegals fit in to the Republican sceme. Employer and employee don't pay taxes. Employer passes the cost to the government and legal citizens pay. Republican government doesn't penalize Republican businesses who hire illegals. Which by the way is a crime under existing law. And for those illegals with false ID's, they can't file income tax and get income tax returns so the government gets to keep it.
Really, the issue is that white America is afraid of becoming a minority and the Republicans have always been the party of the wasps. It is the party of fear.

Could be the pollsters are not asking the right questions.
It is time once again to bombard lawmaker's from the local to national levels with millions of emails and phone calls to express our desires to see them get off their a$$es and do something. The only thing that scares them is a voter card.
If a state along with federal help can evacuate 2 million people from a hurricane area in a matter of days. Then surely they can deport a coulple million people a year. In 5 years we can deport at least half to most of the estimated 10 to 20 million illegal aliens that are here.
There also needs to be an effort to stop Congress from issueing any new visas until they do something about illegals in this country.
Right now in Congress there is a new effort to start another visa program and Congress wants to add 500,000 more job visas to the already overcrowded and burdened visa program. Currently there are over 50 different types of visas.

GOP Platform Reverses Bush Pro-Amnesty Stance
Updated Friday, September 5, 2008, 9:00 AM
Republicans ratified a Party platform this week that reversed the pro-amnesty plank President Bush laid out in the 2004 platform. The platform states that the GOP opposes amnesty, supports border security, and calls for "smarter" interior enforcement against illegal workers and lawbreaking employers alike.
The platform says "smarter" enforcement necessitates the use of E-Verify:
(W)e must empower employers so they can know with confidence that those they hire are permitted to work. That means that the E-Verify system—which is an internet-based system that verifies the employment authorization and identity of employees—must be reauthorized. A phased in requirement that employers use the E-Verify system must be enacted.
Moreover, the platform calls for denial of federal funds to sanctuary cities and denial of Social Security and other public benefits, including driver’s licenses, to illegal aliens except where required under federal law.
Unfortuately, the Party also included language calling for more permanent foreign high-tech workers under the H-1B program. This abused program has displaced domestic high-tech workers and driven down their wages. As such, this part of the Party's plank would hurt, not help, struggling American workers (click here to see current unemployment statistics.)
A platform represents a Party's stances on a range of policy issues, and is normally written to satisfy its base. The Wall Street Journal reports Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the chairman of the platform drafting committee, as saying the Party had opted for a "smaller, more principled, more forward-looking" platform this year that didn't emphasize its nominee before Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was chosen as its flag bearer.
The platform runs counter to the “comprehensive immigration reform” bill pushed by Sen. McCain last year, although the candidate now says he wants to pursue border security first before legalizing the 10-20 million illegal aliens in this country. Some delegates tried to offer platform language that opposed "amnesty or any kind of comprehensive immigration reform." This amendment was rejected when some members argued it was a slap at Sen. McCain. In the end, Sen. McCain did not initiate a fight over any platform positions that ran contrary to his own beliefs.
The platform marks a dramatic shift from the 2004 platform on immigration. That platform called for amnesty and pushed brining in even more foreign workers under a "temporary" guest-worker program.

The sad fact is they have you conned into believing that you too can be a millionaire. By the way - the last amnesty came under Reagan - and W "invited" illegals into the country to help with the cleanup of Katrina (instead of offering the jobs to the legal workforce) while Arizona, under a Democratic governor passed and enacted legislation to take business licenses away from illegal employers caught hiring illegals TWICE.
"Hickenlooper and Ritter proudly proclaim Denver and much of Colorado a sanctuary for illegal immigrants at the cost of public safety."

WHERE DID MAYOR HICKENLOOPER GET STATISTICS HE CITED IN JULY PRESS CONFERENCE?
CompleteColorado.com has obtained an internal document produced by the City of Denver that shows a projected $3 million dollar profit for the Denver vehicle impound lot in calendar year 2009, the first full year of operation under the new "impound" ordinance recently passed by voters. The document stands in sharp contrast to the views of Mayor Hickenlooper at a July 30th press conference in which the Mayor is quoted in a Denver Post article saying that the initiative would "[cost] us a ton of personnel and funding." The article also states that the Mayor said the initiative was an unfunded mandate that would cost the city more than one million dollars annually.
Whether or not the document obtatined by CompleteColorado.com is the same document the Mayor was referencing in his remarks to the press could not be determined by the Mayor's office. However, many numbers specifically cited by Mayor Hickenlooper, closely, if not perfectly, match many of the numbers and assumptions in the spreadsheet.

I truly believe that people post angry messages about illegal immigrants -- BTW I'm no fan of them -- because it's such a base issue to crow about.
If the people who complain on this site REALLY cared, then we would be addressing:
1. The federal deficit/National Debt in conjunction with the huge surge (financial obligations) in Medicare and Social Security recipients. Your leaders in Washington are spending money they don't have now and borrowing from China and Japan in the process. If every man, woman and child in America had to pay today for their share of money-printing going on in Washington, the bill would be well over $35,000. Over half of that debt was incurred by the Bush Administration.
2. Every day 80 Americans are killed by gun violence. 8 of them (10%) are children 19 and under. For every gun death, two more are wounded. Gun violence costs the United States $100 billion annually. At $100 per week, we could feed 19.2 million people with that much money every year. Or at $350 per month, we could provide health insurance to 23.8 million Americans each year. So if the statistic is true that illegal aliens kill 12 Americans every day and we further assume that these were all gun deaths (not a good assumption, I admit), then Americans are killing 6.6 Americans for every illegal immigrant-caused death. Lest we forget, Chandler was starved to death by Americans. The little girl shot in the park a few weeks ago was shot by Americans. Timothy McVeigh, an American army veteran, killed 168 Americans (including innocent CHILDREN in a day care) because he had a beef about our foreign policy. In 2006, there were over 12,000 cases of aggravated assault in Colorado. Not all of these were at the hands of illegal aliens. There were 158 murders in Colorado in 2006. Over 2000 instances of forcible rape occurred in that same year.
If I haven't made my point, it is this: we as Colorado citizens are much more violent and ugly to one another than any number of illegal aliens could every be. Facts are Facts. Everything else is lame, ineffectual, jingoistic pandering. And very sad and pathetic as well.
Yet the people on this site put their energy into two losers. Yes we need to something about them, too. However, we have much bigger problems in this country.

this is quite simple....if you are an illegal and you get caught, we put a permenent tatoo on their arm that will notify any employeer that they will recieve a stiff penalty if they hire this person should they come back after being deported! To me, these people are the lowest form who deserve to be treated one grade above animals.

Good point Mokey... however, the right to bear arms is an important right to protect. I am mostly a non-violent, give peace a chance kind of gal, but that right should be non-negotiable. Pro-choice and pro-guns - d^mn, I must be some kind of weird, murdering Demo-lib-ublican hybrid lol

Point your overlooking Billy, America locks up it's citizens for criminal offenses, now your suggesting I lock up the criminals of other countries as well? On whose dime Billy? No country is paying Colorado for the 4000 illegals in our prisons, we are! Christ right of the throne, we could open up hotels for criminals with swimming pools and saunas if other nations payed America for thier citizens in our prisons. Castro unloaded his prison and mental institutions on America with the 1980's boatlift, he wasn't stupid, America was for accepting them. They even took over 3 federal prisons for a month, remember Billy? No pal, Latin America is shoving thier own inability to help thier people by pushing thier problem down America's throat; but that big time oil revenues they are making isn't seeing thier people, only the rich who keep them oppressed in poverty are making the bucks off thier country's resourses. Enough, we have more than paid Latin America's bill for failing to help thier people become middle class citizens of thier nation, they can spend that oil revenue on thier very own people. Or they can do like Venezula and invite the Russian bombers to back up thier government as they just did, like Cuba once did, and we can keep having truck innertubes, barrel rafts, and illegals washing up on our shores, and swamping our justice systems, education systems, healthcare systems, our insurance premiums as drivers, etc.; what's it going to be Billy? We pay for thier citizens as well as thier criminals, or they pay for thier own? Oil's over 100 dollars a barrel, I think it's thier turn to be responsible Billy, at least for thier own citizens, don't you think? NAFTA needs to be repealed unless Latin America starts recognizing thier responsibility to thier citizens!

I find it interesting that people keep referring to Republican businesses wanting cheap labor. Is it because all business owners become Republicans when they find out how much liberal Democrat policies and programs wind up costing them?

Mokey,
Many of the posters here also respond to the articles related to the crimes of the legal citizens and express their anger and frustration on those strings as well. But this article is about the crimes of illegal aliens.
You said "we as Colorado citizens are much more violent and ugly to one another than any number of illegal aliens could every be."
If you look at the ratio of citizens to illegal aliens, and compare the crimes committed, you will see that your statement above is not true. I agree that there are many other serious problems in our country, but to me, this is one of the most serious.

Biff, that is really too lame to respond to, but I am going to because I am a pushover for anyone who cries out to me "bash me over the head with a pitchfork please" as you have done. 1 you must really have no self esteem, to compare other people to one step above animals. 2. If you are going to target a group to say they are one step above animals, look at corporate wealth tyrants who make others into sweatshop slaves just to keep them in the green. 3. Have you read 1984? Have you read anything about the early stages of Nazi Germany? Go, read.

So he got deported in April and got back in this country. Why didnt he get caught coming back across? I thought we had tightened security down there months ago to prevent this from happening.
This guy will now sit in an American prison and just continue his gang activity in there.

This guy isn't here for any job, he is here to commit crimes. He needs to be locked-up for a very long time and if still alive when released he should be deported again.
Personally I wished this guy could be put out of his and our misery before he does kill someone; unfortunately that won't happen.
This is a good reason to have better border security and better self defenses individually; I will be purchasing another gun this week-end!
