Another illegal immigrant case rocks Aurora

Published September 11, 2008 at 7:12 p.m.

Text size

Aurora police said Thursday that for the second time in a week they have arrested an illegal immigrant after a highly dangerous crash on the city's streets.

Officers arrested Hipolito Vasquez Rojas, 19, after he and a 16-year-old male accomplice allegedly stole a car, crashed into a police car, plowed into a tree and then led officers on a foot chase Wednesday night.

Rojas, who police say is a gang member, was deported in April following his release from the Adams County Jail after serving time for auto theft. It is not known how he turned up five months later in connection with a robbery and shooting.

"This is a reality for our police officers every day. We are getting beat up as to why we're not doing more? The question posed to ICE should be why isn't more being done to shut down the porous border?" said Aurora Police spokesman Bob Friel.

Court and police records show that Rojas has an extensive criminal history, including 30 felony and misdemeanor arrests mostly in Aurora for eluding police, auto theft and illegally possessing a weapon and other charges.

Rojas was also wanted by Adams County for failure to appear in court on an auto theft charge and on a national extradition warrant.

He now is being held for investigation of first-degree attempted homicide, criminal intent for first-degree assault and auto theft, police said.

Police did not identify the juvenile arrested with him. He could face similar charges as an adult, Friel said.

ICE spokesman Carol Rusnok said Rojas was kicked out of the country April 18.

Rusnok said it's a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison to re-enter the country after being deported. ICE has placed another hold on Rojas based on his most recent arrest.

The chase and arrest come on the heels of the Sept. 4 fatal hit-and-run accident involving an illegal immigrant who remained free despite nearly 20 arrest in five years.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said it's fortunate that Wednesday's shooting didn't lead to a similar tragedy.

"Obviously, we are extremely fortunate that the round of gunfire missed," Oates said. "Had it struck and killed someone would we all be here looking at the next Francis Hernandez case?"

Wednesday's crime spree began around 1 p.m. when Rojas and the teen allegedly tried to steal a white Chevrolet Blazer from the parking lot of a business near Interstate 70 and Tower Road.

As an employee tried to stop the car theft, Rojas allegedly shot at him with a handgun, grazing the worker's shirt.

Aurora police did not release the identity of the worker, who was not seriously hurt.

Rojas and the youth allegedly stole a Honda Civic from the parking lot and later crashed it into a tree in the 9800 Block of East Colfax Avenue.

They ran from officers and were later arrested separately about three blocks away.

The Democrats, some open borders Republicans, and a host of other groups (greens, La Raza, ...) are trying to stop border enforcement and wall construction. ICE is captive to the political process. The Bush administration has relunctantly done much more enforcement in the last 2 years including trying to build the wall. If the chosen one is elected, the wall will not be finished.

The illegals are invading our country. There are 2 things we need to do to take back our country. We need to SEAL THE BORDER and we need to dry up the jobs. The border needs to be a no man's land DMZ type of operation. However if they do manage to get across, the penalties for hiring them need to be so severe that jobs will just not be available. Right now, the reward is so much greater than the risk, that they just come back, even if deported. And there is always someone who will hire them, because again the risk is so low and the reward so great that employers don't care if they get caught with a couple of illegals on the payroll.

This is another example of the failure of Democratic leadership to keep folks safe. People need to look at the leadership in sanctuary cities across America their elected officials are in the Democratic Party. The taxpaying public's safety is secondary to the rights of illegal immigrants and gangsters.

This policy will carry forward onto the national level if the Dems get into the White House.

Hickenlooper and Ritter proudly proclaim Denver and much of Colorado a sanctuary for illegal immigrants at the cost of public safety.

Its obvious the public's safety is up to themselves, learn how to protect yourselves.

With former mayor Pena supporting amnesty and showing up at the rally supporting illegals, with mayor Hinckenlooper's restaurants hiring illegals that murder police officers, with a Denver city council that refuses to protect our citizens, with a governor who used to plea bargain the illegals criminal cases and set them free to go on to commit greater crimes like rape, good luck trying to stop the illegals who are criminals. If the politicians support them, employ them, refuse to protect the citizens, set them free to reoffend, it looks to be a losing battle. I don't see an end to the problem anytime soon folks, they've even flooded our state prisons with 4000 illegals, our schools are spending millions to educate in 2 languages, most of the lower paying jobs are going to illegals instead of our children or our poor, I'd say they just about own Colorado; except for the high paying white collar jobs held predomonately by anglos, the rest of Colorado from construction to fast food belongs to the illegal for the taking. In many ways illegal immigration is hurting the people who can least afford it, America's minority community. Seems my people favor the illegal and thier cheap labor, over thier fellow Americans, just like Hickenlooper and Ritter. Anglos also weather recessions better than the minority community. It's not right, but with many minorities dropping out of school, those jobs are very much going to be in demand, and with the illegals taking them, these jobs will be hard to come by in America for Americans. I think America takes care of Americans first, especially our minority communities where education is sometimes not equal to the majority. Almost a 50% drop out rate amongst hispanic Americans alone, now you give the jobs that belong to them in construction and other areas to illegals because thier labor is cheaper? Before I'm accused of being racist, consider what I'm saying when I say I want to protect the jobs of all Americans including the minority community. My people need to step up to the plate and protect those of all races who are less affluent and thier own fellow countrymen first. No amnesty, no more illegals, we take care of our own people first, both with education as well as job security. When the American economy goes south, minorities are the hardest hit with unemployment. They deserve better, they desrve a decent wage and a future for thier families, not someone who breaks or laws and illegally seeks to undermine our own citizens economic future. Maybe I'm wrong, but I want all Americans to have a piece of the pie first, especially when this economy dumps. I've seen many things in my many years, I want America to take care of thier citizens first, regardless of race. I don't want my tax money spent on the higher education of an illegal if there is one American regardless of race being turned away.

I HAVE, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK or go get in line with your buddies at the local assistance office and tell them the tide is turning!!

Here is a small example of PUBLICLY FUNDED PROGRAMS TO HELP ILLEGAL / UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS . . . . Several states -- Texas, California, New York, Utah, Illinois, Washington, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas -- have passed state laws providing in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens who have attended high school in the state for three or more years. Similar legislation is pending in Florida, Hawaii, Maryland (legislation passed, but awaiting governor's signature), Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. (Connecticut and Wisconsin also passed such a law, but their governors vetoed it. Thanks to those governors!) The Nevada system of higher education does not consider immigration status for in-state tuition, but does require it for a state-sponsored scholarship. Also, some schools in Georgia provide in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens. The Texas law also allows illegal aliens to receive state student financial aid.

And all of these programs are supported by who, the U.S. TAXPAYER!!

Assign personal liability for knowingly hiring illegals, provide a mechanism to prove it, and then throw a few CEO and HR ppl in jail for hiring illegals, and it will come to a stretching halt. In addition, start deporting ppl to africa, say ethiopia, rather than sending them into Mexico (mexico will provide a bus ride to the southern border for none mexicans). Thier free healthcare is killing hospitals, they have cost our educational systems millions in our state alone at a time when the money is sorely needed for our own citizens. They have accidents everyday leaving many injuried or killed with no financial liabilities. there are many areas they are putting states in extreme economic hardship. It's time to enact stricter penalties like other countries and cities here in America. For instance, if a landlord could lose his property for the property being used illegally to house illegals, much like cars and property are siezed from drug convictions for it's illegal use, where are they going to live. Some countries charge employers 30,000 dollars for every illegal caught in thier employ. I think that's an excellent amount, make it manditory in addition to charging the owner with a felony for each one the second time around getting caught. Since there are nations like Mexico who have hundreds of thousands of illegals already in America, it's time to suspend legal immigration from this nation since thier presence here far exceed immigration quotas. Next, if Latin America with thier great oil wealth keep refusing to help thier people since there is no middle class there, maybe America should suspend NAFTA with them. It's time to force the wealthy in power getting rich in Latin America to take care of thier people and quit exploiting thier own people's poverty. Property confiscation, higher fines on employers, suspending immigration from nations whose illegal in our country exceed our quotas as established by immigration first; if it works to stem illegals from breaking the law and illegally entering our country, then we can talk about amnesty. Like the new law in Denver, the voters hold the keys to government; the tax money being used to send illegals to college over Americans also was voter approved. It's all in the wording as to if it stands up to court challenges. The property confiscation in one small town has held up thus far, you can be held accountable if you allow your property to be used for illegals to live in violation of the law, because your acually aiding and abetting an illegal using the property for that purpose by renting to them. Sad the voters have to pass such draconian laws, or maybe even shut down immigration altogether like Europe, but illegals are costing the taxpayers plenty at a time when America needs to take care of our own people. That's not racist, it good common sense since it affects all Americans regardless of race.

The time is long overdue for the people to be heard and strongly corrrect these sanctuary policies whatever it takes. A good point that is not made often enough; Those who come here illegally from South of the border tarnish the image of the entire law-abiding hispanic community.

Because we are human beings, we lack telepathy that would allow us to distinguish between a legal immigrant and an illegal alien who, for all intensive purposes, look the same. Add to that the fact that we know there are hundreds of thousands of illegals here, and they're the faces we keep seeing when crimes are committed more than any other group, and you end up with prejudice toward an entire race.

I would think the hispanic population that is here legally would be just as, if not more, outraged than the rest of us. They're the ones who'll suffer if people ever start taking matters into their own hands regarding this problem, committing hate crimes and otherwise lashing out against a very visible group of people.

I'd like to hear from those bleeding hearts on this point now. Tell me, what is your solution for this, since no matter how you try, you can't stop others from judging and even acting on that judgement.

For you sixth grade Republicans, it's the Federal government under a Republican president who sets the budget for ICE. You are willing to give up a few dead as long as your Happy Meal doesn't go up by fifty cents.

Another thing is that you must remember that the overwhelming number of Hispanics are very religious and respect the law, whether they are in the US as citizens or illegal. They work very hard, even though they are exploited by righteous Republican employers who don't pay what they should and don't pay taxes that are required. For all of the talk about how illegals cost the government, the fact is that illegals fit in to the Republican sceme. Employer and employee don't pay taxes. Employer passes the cost to the government and legal citizens pay. Republican government doesn't penalize Republican businesses who hire illegals. Which by the way is a crime under existing law. And for those illegals with false ID's, they can't file income tax and get income tax returns so the government gets to keep it.

Really, the issue is that white America is afraid of becoming a minority and the Republicans have always been the party of the wasps. It is the party of fear.

Could be the pollsters are not asking the right questions.
It is time once again to bombard lawmaker's from the local to national levels with millions of emails and phone calls to express our desires to see them get off their a$$es and do something. The only thing that scares them is a voter card.

If a state along with federal help can evacuate 2 million people from a hurricane area in a matter of days. Then surely they can deport a coulple million people a year. In 5 years we can deport at least half to most of the estimated 10 to 20 million illegal aliens that are here.

There also needs to be an effort to stop Congress from issueing any new visas until they do something about illegals in this country.
Right now in Congress there is a new effort to start another visa program and Congress wants to add 500,000 more job visas to the already overcrowded and burdened visa program. Currently there are over 50 different types of visas.

American's are losing jobs. They are seeing everything go up in price and watching there wages remain stagnant. Something has to give real soon.

GOP Platform Reverses Bush Pro-Amnesty Stance

    Updated Friday, September 5, 2008, 9:00 AM

Republicans ratified a Party platform this week that reversed the pro-amnesty plank President Bush laid out in the 2004 platform. The platform states that the GOP opposes amnesty, supports border security, and calls for "smarter" interior enforcement against illegal workers and lawbreaking employers alike.

The platform says "smarter" enforcement necessitates the use of E-Verify:

(W)e must empower employers so they can know with confidence that those they hire are permitted to work. That means that the E-Verify system—which is an internet-based system that verifies the employment authorization and identity of employees—must be reauthorized. A phased in requirement that employers use the E-Verify system must be enacted.

Moreover, the platform calls for denial of federal funds to sanctuary cities and denial of Social Security and other public benefits, including driver’s licenses, to illegal aliens except where required under federal law.

Unfortuately, the Party also included language calling for more permanent foreign high-tech workers under the H-1B program. This abused program has displaced domestic high-tech workers and driven down their wages. As such, this part of the Party's plank would hurt, not help, struggling American workers (click here to see current unemployment statistics.)

A platform represents a Party's stances on a range of policy issues, and is normally written to satisfy its base. The Wall Street Journal reports Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the chairman of the platform drafting committee, as saying the Party had opted for a "smaller, more principled, more forward-looking" platform this year that didn't emphasize its nominee before Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was chosen as its flag bearer.
The platform runs counter to the “comprehensive immigration reform” bill pushed by Sen. McCain last year, although the candidate now says he wants to pursue border security first before legalizing the 10-20 million illegal aliens in this country. Some delegates tried to offer platform language that opposed "amnesty or any kind of comprehensive immigration reform." This amendment was rejected when some members argued it was a slap at Sen. McCain. In the end, Sen. McCain did not initiate a fight over any platform positions that ran contrary to his own beliefs.
The platform marks a dramatic shift from the 2004 platform on immigration. That platform called for amnesty and pushed brining in even more foreign workers under a "temporary" guest-worker program.

The sad fact is they have you conned into believing that you too can be a millionaire. By the way - the last amnesty came under Reagan - and W "invited" illegals into the country to help with the cleanup of Katrina (instead of offering the jobs to the legal workforce) while Arizona, under a Democratic governor passed and enacted legislation to take business licenses away from illegal employers caught hiring illegals TWICE.

CompleteColorado.com has obtained an internal document produced by the City of Denver that shows a projected $3 million dollar profit for the Denver vehicle impound lot in calendar year 2009, the first full year of operation under the new "impound" ordinance recently passed by voters. The document stands in sharp contrast to the views of Mayor Hickenlooper at a July 30th press conference in which the Mayor is quoted in a Denver Post article saying that the initiative would "[cost] us a ton of personnel and funding." The article also states that the Mayor said the initiative was an unfunded mandate that would cost the city more than one million dollars annually.

Whether or not the document obtatined by CompleteColorado.com is the same document the Mayor was referencing in his remarks to the press could not be determined by the Mayor's office. I truly believe that people post angry messages about illegal immigrants -- BTW I'm no fan of them -- because it's such a base issue to crow about.

If the people who complain on this site REALLY cared, then we would be addressing:

    1. The federal deficit/National Debt in conjunction with the huge surge (financial obligations) in Medicare and Social Security recipients. Your leaders in Washington are spending money they don't have now and borrowing from China and Japan in the process. If every man, woman and child in America had to pay today for their share of money-printing going on in Washington, the bill would be well over $35,000. Over half of that debt was incurred by the Bush Administration.

    2. Every day 80 Americans are killed by gun violence. 8 of them (10%) are children 19 and under. For every gun death, two more are wounded. Gun violence costs the United States $100 billion annually. At $100 per week, we could feed 19.2 million people with that much money every year. Or at $350 per month, we could provide health insurance to 23.8 million Americans each year. So if the statistic is true that illegal aliens kill 12 Americans every day and we further assume that these were all gun deaths (not a good assumption, I admit), then Americans are killing 6.6 Americans for every illegal immigrant-caused death. Lest we forget, Chandler was starved to death by Americans. The little girl shot in the park a few weeks ago was shot by Americans. Timothy McVeigh, an American army veteran, killed 168 Americans (including innocent CHILDREN in a day care) because he had a beef about our foreign policy. In 2006, there were over 12,000 cases of aggravated assault in Colorado. Not all of these were at the hands of illegal aliens. There were 158 murders in Colorado in 2006. Over 2000 instances of forcible rape occurred in that same year.

If I haven't made my point, it is this: we as Colorado citizens are much more violent and ugly to one another than any number of illegal aliens could every be. Facts are Facts. Everything else is lame, ineffectual, jingoistic pandering. And very sad and pathetic as well.

Yet the people on this site put their energy into two losers. Yes we need to something about them, too. However, we have much bigger problems in this country.

Many of the posters here also respond to the articles related to the crimes of the legal citizens and express their anger and frustration on those strings as well. But this article is about the crimes of illegal aliens.

You said "we as Colorado citizens are much more violent and ugly to one another than any number of illegal aliens could every be."

If you look at the ratio of citizens to illegal aliens, and compare the crimes committed, you will see that your statement above is not true. I agree that there are many other serious problems in our country, but to me, this is one of the most serious.

All good points but you are all forgetting a HUGE one. All illegal aliens that have children in the US are eligible for AFDC (Aids for families with Dependent Children). That's right - the kids are U.S. citizens because they are born here and therefore the parents get to claim benefits and food stamps to support the children.

Someone needs to get an amendment through the constitution that you have to be from a LEGAL US citizen parent to be a legal US citizen. That would solve a lot of problems. I lived in CA and women showed up 8 months pregnant (entered with a coyote) and then delivered and could stay! What a joke. We should bill their country for our hospital services and delivery fees. Afterall, a man who gets a woman pregnant is expected to pay the fees of the hospital so why is it that the illegals get it for free? First step -- CHANGE THE LAW SO THEY ARE NOT LEGAL BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF BIRTH!

I have no problem with someone coming to this country legally and trying to improve their life but when you enter illegally, you are a criminal and should be treated as one.

And when our border patrol does act - as in the Campos case, they get set up and the criminal gets away free plus can now sue because he was shot. What a crime~!

Isn't that the problem? Free, if you don't pay property tax in some form, or another. Our schools are suffering directly as a result of illegal aliens. The need for an increase in Spanish speaking social workers, bilingual programs, free lunches, etc., is definitely coming directly out of the education budgets intended for American children.

Schools are just one area. Other examples of strained institutions (public and private) include social welfare, criminal justice, healthcare and insurance. The increased cost of an estimated 14 to 25 million illegal aliens far outweighs any benefit that these people bring to America.

As this population grows exponentially, we are faced with a decision to either assimilate legal aliens into the American culture, or allow our country to be over taken by the third world culture of illegal aliens.

Am I saying that America has a superior culture to that of Mexico, or any other country for that matter? No; however, I am saying that it is our culture and language that make us distinctly American and focused on living the “American Dream.” I also see America as a charitable nation, one willing to help other nations build and educate their own citizens. I’m for securing our boarders, toughening immigration laws, and deporting illegal aliens before it’s too late. Likewise, I’m for helping other countries develop the institutions and means to provide citizens with the capability to fulfill their dreams in their own country.

This is a letter that was printed yesterday in the aspen Newspaper written by my father in law that was shot at by an illegal alien last year- I don't think I could say it any better!

    Editor:

In response to a recent Sunday Daily News front page story, “Basalt’s barrio,” I have a few things to say.

I laughed at how the author described the drive-by shooting at 7/Eleven as an “attempted shooting.” It was attempted murder! Five real slugs from an M-1 rifle tore through the front window of the store.

When the police brought me back to identify the shooters from the store’s videotape, I saw the yellow police tape strung through the store tracing the trajectories of the bullets. One bullet came within two feet of a melted ice cream bar, where a mother and a child had been standing at the time of the shooting. Had I been there at the time of the shooting, had I been at the register, I’d likely have been killed.

Though one of the suspects lived next door in the trailer park, not one hardworking, “law abiding” Hispanic came forward with any information.

Are we to accept and assimilate people who spit on our nation’s sovereignty and say, like Jose in the article, “If they take me to Mexico, I know I’ll be back in two weeks?”

Illegal immigration benefits only the rich, giving them a cheap labor pool. With unemployment at a 15-year high, how many jobs are being kept from legal citizens by people who aren’t supposed to be here?

Would your children be doing better in school if they weren’t preoccupied learning Spanish? It’s your taxes that pay for those bilingual teachers for kids who shouldn’t been here.

I wish I could afford to go to Mexico once or twice year, like Jose. He, like other illegals, makes his money here and they then send billions per year south of the border. How freaking politically correct is that? It’s as if our valley had its own little foreign aid program.

The open-border bleeding hearts advertise our valley as a safe haven destination for illegal aliens. This has nothing to do with racism or bigotry. This is about the rule of law and order in our society.

If you want to call this greatest nation on earth “home,” then you must respect our laws, especially our sovereignty.

Otherwise we risk leaving our grandchildren a Third World country for their future.

I think it's wrong to say someone is a U.S. citizen just because their mom happened to be over the border when the deliver occured. If your parents aren't U.S. citizens, then neither are you. Or give the babies to one of the movie stars that want to adopt, then deport the parents. Most of this is sarcastic, but something has to be done to fix the problem.

GM has always been a step ahead of the other American car manufacturers it seems. A lot can be held on an implanted chip, to include the exact whereabouts of certain couriers in some professions and required by some insurance companies. It's all a matter of how much freedom do the people want to give up. I personally think there are other ways to deal with illegals. Europe really cut down by mandatory fines in excess of 30,000 dollars for each illegal caught in a company's employ, and jailing company owners if there is blatant disregard for the law. I think we have enough laws, the government is failing to enforce the ones we have, what good are new ones. Even Denver's new law isn't being enforced, it's still a cop decision whether to impound because of the politicians. I figure you don't have a license is pretty easy to check; politicians want to keep us a sanctuary city and state, plain and simple. You can write all the laws you want, the 1996 law, the new Denver law, but if the executive branch of government, both local and state, refuse to enforce them what can you do? The executive branch is in charge of enforcing the laws. thus if they refuse to honor and enforce the law already on the books, I feel they commit the same crime as the criminal by proxy. In Denver our mayor's own employee at his restaurant, an illegal, killed a Denver police officer, mayor could have cared less, never even publicly acknowledged his mistake or apologized to the rank and file Denver cops. Most of the rank and file Denver cops could care less about the mayor, ask them I do. You'd be surprised how much they dislike the Denver mayor, they'll tell you, just ask them when you see them casually. Think if you look up Hinkenlooper it means hedge-hopping thief in it's native definition, but who knows; maybe it's a flightless bird that poops big eggs along the lines of a Dodo bird.

From the total detail and analysis, we can make inferences. From this, NADA nothing zilch ZERO

    Mokey -

What's the basis for the numbers? Percent of what population?

    *******************************************

The data is from criminal case statistics (database) Jul 07 to Jun 08 and contains all relevant data regarding the case (case no, name, county, case type (felony, misd, juvenile) and case level (F1, F2, F3, F4....Traffic, etc.), disposition of the case, race and much more. The population data comes from the State Demographers Office.

As a statistical correlary, from the U.S. Office of Justice Statistics (http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/crimoff.htm), racial breakdown of prison population in U.S. is: Black 40%, Hispanic 19%, Am Indian 1% and Asian 1%. Multiracial is about 3% and the rest are white.

The reason this Hispanic percent in Colorado is much higher than the national average is because Colorado has one of the largest Hispanic growth rates in the country, outpacing all other racial groups.

I went out of my way to provide unbiased (dry) data, but there is much more out there for the taking (State Judicial Department, Colorado Dept of Corrections, Dept of Public Safety/Criminal Justice Division, etc.). I did this because facts are better than mere statements or raw opinion (like on this web site).

I haven't looked at crime rates of illegal aliens, but I am willing to bet that the majority of illegal aliens DO NOT want to be caught and avoid law enforcement contact at all costs (read: they are mostly law abiding people just trying to make a better life for themselves). However, I would invite anyone to prove me wrong.

I agree with Louie. Someone earlier was referencing the fact that a lot of these criminals have a long record of crimes. They blamed the police for them being on the street. The fact that they have been caught 30 times is telling me the police are doing their job. The legal system is letting us down there, not the police. I'm sure it's becuase they don't have enough cells to keep them all, so they release the least dangerous (they think). To be successful we have to be commited to making criminals pay for their crimes. There has to be consequences and they have to be a deterent. So we either have to be commited to building more jails to hold them long enough to make it a consequence or we have to make room in the jails some other way. Capital punishment works for me. I don't think there should be a life sentence. I know, what about the innocent guy. Well what about the thousands of innocent people that get hurt or killed by the criminal because we keep letting them out. If we could find a way to cut down on the crime there would be fewer innocent people in prison. We need to fix the problem, not keep pretending it doesn't exist.

Bottom line here is that there are many Legal Immigrants working very hard trying to gain the American Dream. They should be saluted and given the very same opportunities as the rest of Legal citizens of this country.

    ****************************************

I have done exceptionally well in statistical classes that I have taken...thank-you. And I do understand how statistics can be mis-used to tell pretty much any story. However, the organization of the data that I provided came directly from a criminal caseload database. The data is not made up nor did I try to show any type of conclusion based on the data that I provided. Besides the table I provided is not dis-similar to any other state in the nation with similar demographics as Colorado.

I also invited people to look at the Bureau of Justice Statistics (national) or any number of Colorado sites for their own data (again, State Judicial Department, Colorado Department of Corrections, Division of Criminal Justice). We don't get to look at the raw data in these instances, but it is difficult to argue that the professionals that compile this data simply ignore the data itself and provide made-up statistics or tables.

Again, I don't have specific data on illegal immigrants and criminal activities. These people -- criminals or not -- are trying to evade capture (yes, even though they can be back here in two weeks. It's still a major hassle even if it's that easy). I do know that there are illegal immigrants in this country who are here for the specific purpose of commiting crime. I read an article just today which said that since drug trafficing is being so rigidly enforced, Mexican Gangs are growing marijuana on public lands (state and national parks). So I am neither agreeing or disagreeing that illegal immigrants are generally law-abiding or not, just that the facts are murky at best. When I Googled it, I got tons of sites that are clearly biased.

Whoever posted the Gumball Video, I enjoyed watching it. It was an effective presentation.

    *************************************************

So I will go back to my earlier post and regroup. I have seen several references that state that illegal immigrants kill 12 Americans every day. 12 times 365 is 4,380. Hmmm. I don't have access to the data that supports the 12/day statistic.

Here's another data source from NationMaster (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri...), which states that in 2007 the per capita murder rate in the United States was .042802 per 1,000. To make the math easy, let's assume that in 2007, the U.S. population was 300,000,000 people. Divide 300 million by 1,000, which equals 300,000. Multiply this by .042802 and it equals 12,840 murders. So are you telling me that the 20 million (do I have **this number** correct???) illegal immigrants in the United States, about 6.7 percent of the population commit 34.1 percent of the murders? Seriously, which statistic did I make up? The population of the United States? The per capita murder rate? The estimated illegal immigrant population? Or does the 12 murders per day seem to the be the odd number?

Of course, using your oddball logic, I would first have to line every person up in America, count them, ask them their citizenship status and ask them whether they committed a murder in the past year.

There are at "LEAST" 3000 US citizens killed each year by illegals!!! We have more of our citizens being killed each year by foreigners on US soil, then in the Middle East. EVERY single one of these citizens had the right to be safe/protected in OUR country.

    DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!

OBAMA is still the "MOST EVIL" regarding this issue-----and should NOT be elected!!

At "Least" McCain has said that he will close/secure the borders......Obama said that he finds the fence "offensive".

At "LEAST" the MAJORITY of Republicans are on OUR SIDE regarding this issue------and they will stop any/all attempts that McCain may make toward amnesty------as they know what the MAJORITY of citizens want done regarding illegals-----and they will NOT let McCain destroy THEIR political careers.

The MAJORITY of the Dems in Congress will be siding with Obama if he tries to push amnesty.

At "LEAST" McCain has NOT said that YOUR kids should learn Spanish, and that ICE is acting like Nazis because they are doing raids on employers who are hiring illegals.

PLUS........McCain has NOT promised illegals amnesty, welfare, WIC, foodstamps, jobs, drivers' licenses, health care benefits, education benefits, etc.

Obama's health care plan includes ILLEGALS!!! He will lie and say that it does not include illegals, that is because he plans on making them all legal first.

Our forefathers fought to protect our future rights/opportunities in this country. The torch has now been passed to us to fight to protect the future rights/opportunities of our children/grandchildren in OUR country.

Once this is put into action, we will NOT get a second chance to stop it!!!

    DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!!

A little lesson in Civics seems to be in order here for a few who insist that the Bush and co are soley to blame for this problem.

    1. The first amnesty for illegal alians was inacted under Jimmy Carter (A democratic for those to young to remember); So this is clearly not a problem that has just creeped up since Bush became president.

    2. Although the President does submit a budget to congress, it is more or less a list of what he wants. The authority to draft the federal budget lays solely with the House of Representatives (controlled for the last several years by [guess real quick] the democratic party [234 vs 198 reps] ).

    3. The President does not have the right of line item veto or additions to the budget drafted by the HOR and approved by both the HOR and Senat (49 Dems, 49 Rep and 2 Indies), only of approval through signature, or veto.

    4. This being the case, it stands to reason, that the underfunding of the ICE is the fault of both parties. Bush has not requested more, and the Democratic congress has not given him federal budgets with increased spending in them.

However; This being America, we will decide our next President not on such important issues as these. We will concentrate on wether or not Obama is secretly and Muslim (and so what if he is) or if we should hold a mother responsible for the sexual activities of her 17 year old daughter (and how many of the contributors to this forum were born to similarly young mothers?),

We are to blame, the majority of american's do not participate in the political process. And sadly, many of those non-participates spend their time, spouting hate on sites such as these, and posing a true americans.

It saddens me on a emotional level to read all the hate towards people of darker skin. All because these wonderful souls wanted to bring themselves here. And we treat them of with hate and contempt. Why can't all of you stop being racist klan members and love these people. The crime commited here is the fault of all of us. Please forgive him and may we all live happily searving our Savior, Lord Jesus Obama, the Truth, the Light, and the Way.

You've gotten distorted to think Lord Jesus Obama is the Great Divine, Almighty,The truth, the light and the way.
It is not Senator Obama! You've fallen off the deep end.

White people/corporations/employers (who hire cheap labor)/
