PENNY: Stylist pleased with TV finish, role of villain

Charlie Price, owner of Click salon in Cherry Creek North, said he didn't expect to win Shear Genius, a 10-week hairstylist competition on Bravo.
Price lost in the "final cut" to Dee Adames, a Miami stylist who was his chief competition throughout the series.
"I think the producers thought it would be an anti-climax for me to win," Price said. "I think they wanted an upset. It's a TV show. I would have been shocked if I won. I was just so happy to be in the top three."
Three of the top four finishers in the reality show will reunite Oct. 19 during a 303 Magazine hair party at the Exdo Event Center. Price, along with Nicole Obert and Daniel Lewis, will select their models, clothes and hairstyles for the show. Price may have been the most skilled stylist on the show - he won four eliminations challenges, by far more than anyone else - but he wasn't a fan favorite.
"I played the villain so people hate me," he said. "They wrote horrible things on blogs."
Price distinguished himself as the (rhymes with witch) contestant who often picked on other competitors, just because.
"Whenever I was bored, I'd attack (Nekisa) because it was really fun," he said. "The producers tried to make Dee sympathetic with this poor chic bull, but she's like a junkyard dog."
Price said it's pretty much business as usual in Denver, except that he's getting recognized more often as long as he's wearing his signature black-framed glasses.
"If I don't have my glasses on nobody recognizes me. I'm doing everything that I normally do, but everybody's more interested in it now."
TRIATHLON TITAN: Rich Kylberg must be guzzling from the fountain of youth. Last weekend, he finished second in the Newton 24 & 8 Hours of Triathlon - going solo for 24 hours - at Cherry Creek State Park.
"Most people do this in a relay format, which makes it a bit more manageable," said his wife, Holly Kylberg. "I saw him when he finished, and, as usual, he didn't look like he had even broken a sweat."
Rich, 47, started exercising roughly four years ago to train for his first marathon. Way to go, pal.
PARTY PEEPS: While many of us are still stumbling around in a post-Democratic National Convention funk, nightclub and restaurant owner Jesse Morreale is ready to party on, Denver. RockBar (renamed BarackBar during the DNC) celebrates its second anniversary today with a host of guest DJs and free kegs of beer, starting at 6 p.m. The Colfax Avenue joint served as the official late-night spot for the celebs (Susan Sarandon, Dana Delany, Tim Daly, Anne Hathaway, Rachael Leigh Cook, etc.) who were part of The Creative Coalition.
Morreale says he's expecting a new shipment of the sold-out BarackBar T-shirts that many of the Hollywood types wore around town.
On Sunday, Tambien in Cherry Creek North will host a final Rockabilly and Ribs for the season. The Railbenders will play, and chef Sean Yontz will cook his killer barbecue.
HELPING HANDS: Actress and Teikyo Loretto Heights University grad Lucy Roucis, who was stricken with Parkinson's disease in her 20s, needs financial help for the expensive surgeries she's going through.
To help with expenses, her Denver colleagues are throwing a benefit bash at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Mizel Arts & Culture Center, 350 S. Dahlia St. The evening will include entertainment from comedian Edith Weiss, Chicken Lips with Bob Wells, Wendy Ishii and Jonathan Farwell from Bas Bleu Theatre, Celtic vocalist Marta Burton and a reading from Terry Dodd's new play. Paul Borrillo is master of ceremonies. Tickets: $15 at the Mizel Center Box Office, 303-316-6360.
EAVESDROPPING on two women at breakfast: "Can you please tell me where do men come from?"
"It is a little-known fact, but they come from the planet Stupid."
"Well that does explain it all, doesn't it?"
"Yes it does."
