Couric too cute

Published September 6, 2008 at 12:05 a.m.

While catching up on the effects of Hurricane Gustav, I errantly watched CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

Her repetitive sidebar that offered intense scrutiny of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter made me think of one thing; Bristol Palin may be pregnant, but at least she's not pretentious.

Thank you once again, Ms. Couric, for your unbiased journalism. You don't get it that many of us believe Bristol will be blessed by having her baby, not punished by it.

The liberal spin machine spent a full week devoted to heralding Barack Obama without questioning whether his background was adequately vetted.

I can guarantee you that the skeletons in his closet won't be nearly as cute and cuddly as this baby about to be born into the Palin family.

You will never get Anchor Barbie to even think about telling a true story. As a newsreader, she is the pits, with no believability or credibility. Her agenda is sewn to her sleeve, visible to all, unashamedly partisan. The MSM no longer even pretends to be unbiased, but proudly and desperately pushes the Dem agenda, without any pretenses.

Regardless of how many times you repeat the lie, it is still a lie.

The MSM is so used to being the only voice in a small sea, that they have forgotten that with the advent of the Internet (thank you, Algore), they can be easily exposed for the biased propagandists that they are. They are relegating themselves into oblivion (witness the NYT decline). Americans will no longer be spoon-fed lies and half-truths, and have come to not trust the liberal news seen on the MSM every night. The exposure and the options are good for America. Only Fox sees the reality that they can be proven wrong or right at a moment's notice.

The letter writer may not have noticed that Barack Obama has been running for President for a year and a half, and has already been vetted to a quite substantial extent. Sarah Palin has been in the national spotlight for about a week, and has been carefully protected from actually having to answer any questions. So how is it "bias" for the media to try and get some info on her? That's their job.

Romulus - I wouldn't consider opining that since Palin is a mother of 5 she should not be trying to be the VP "the job" of journalists. It's more of a sexist double standard since nobody is making that claim about Obama having children.

Investigating her (or vetting) is one thing, attacking her for being a mother is quite another.

BTW - Obama hasn't been cornered or asked any tough questions regarding his past associations. He's been given mostly a walk by the big three networks. Hardly what anyone can consider well "vetted."

But that's is all about to end...

KW, you got a little confused, again. Romulus didn't say anything about Palin's children.

Try to keep your eye on the ball, son.

I agree that Palin's family situation should not be made an issue. While the mere fact of bringing up a fact about a candidate is not an attack, even if the fact is not a relevant one, it is true that the commentary accompanying the fact is often an attack.

Your comment about Obama not being examined critically is of course laughable. I'm sure you meant it as a joke. Or could it be that you are really that uninformed?

What a divided country. It is like we are two separate nations, the republicans and the democrats. My feeling is that there is an anti-intellectual backlash by republicans, one that has existed for several decades where "faith" trumps science as a guide to progress (sort of like the Catholics in the dark ages). It virtually guarantees that there will be a managed and broadbased decline in our great nation. You see, if no visionary and brilliant president leads this nation forward, it can only decline (pleasingly ordered, mind you). The president of the United States of America, the most powerful and richest country in the world, can't just be a proud hocky mom. They have to be brilliant, knowledgeable, dynamic, and capable of moving the world.

Why is it you Obama supporters can never read the words written in a post? You seemingly always misread the post and twist the written word. Did you have this much trouble following written instructions in school (assuming you went to school)?

Lets clear things up a bit... I never said "Romulus said..." He exclaimed that "vetting" was appropriate and I clarified that certain "vetting" of Palin that's currently circulating in the media is totally inappropriate. ie - complaining that she has kids that should come first. Are women held to a greater standard? Or should the same question either be asked about Obama's kids, or better yet, left out of the supposed "vetting" process altogether?

Or what about the WaPo and CNN claim that Palin "cut" budget spending for special need children? This is so overboard the reporters should've been fired like Rather on the spot. Palin actually increased the budget by 50% for special need kids but nowhere was there ever a retraction about this blatant lie. I even have leftwing friends bringing this point up thinking it was a true story simply because they heard it on "the news."

Again, this is hardly appropriate "vetting" when the vetting folks feel free to make up the rules (and lies) as they go along.

Now, do us all a favor grandpaw and put your specs (and brain) on next time you try and grasp the content of one of my posts.

Why would KW complain to Romulus that it is wrong to attack Palin for being a mother when Romulus never attacked Palin for being a mother, and never indicated any approval of that tactic ? Beats me.

But I do appreciate his apologizing to me for his gaffe.
