Wine, spirits, food and philanthropy combine at the Denver Food & Wine Classic hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits of Colorado and the Colorado Restaurant Association (CRA) Education Foundation, benefiting Post-News charities, Kroenke Sports charities, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the CRA Education Foundation.
Billed as Denver's largest single-day food- and wine-tasting experience (be prepared to share space with 3,500 other oenophiles), it's a chance to visit with winemakers, rub elbows with Denver's top chefs and bid on some cool auction items.
* The event: A whirlwind sip and sup fest featuring food samples from 30 Denver restaurants, a steel chef competition, cooking demonstrations, wine auction and more than 300 wines, whiskeys, gins and other mind-altering spirits.
* When: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday
* Where: Metropolitan State College of Denver, 7th and Lawrence streets on the Auraria campus
* Don't miss: Culinary demonstrations throughout the day by chefs Matt Selby (Vesta Dipping Grill, Steuben's), Troy Guard (TAG), Goose Sorensen (Solera Restaurant and Wine Bar), Tyler Wiard (Elway's Cherry Creek) and Keegan Gerhard (D Bar Desserts).
* Up for auction: Weekend getaway to the Broadmoor Hotel for the annual "Salute to Escoffier" grand buffet blowout, Jan. 30-31, 2009.
* Tickets: $55 per person
