Poll

Should the Broncos have traded Domonique Foxworth to the Falcons or kept him on their roster?

The Broncos released defensive tackle Alvin McKinley on Tuesday and signed defensive tackle Josh Shaw.

McKinley is set the enter his ninth NFL season and started 10 games for the Broncos in 2007, his first year with the team. The Broncos also formally re-signed guard Dylan Gandy to take the roster spot created when they completed the trade that sent Domonique Foxworth to the Atlanta Falcons.

Shaw has spent time with three NFL teams, most recently having been cut by the Raiders. The 29-year-old played in one game for Oakland last season.

Why this trade? It seems that if you cant make the Raiders, then you cant make it anywhere. Thats why they picked up Lelie, cause he cant make it anywhere!!

Okay.....we dropped McKinney to add Josh Shaw. Anyone know anything about this Shaw kid? Was there something wrong with the way McKinney played? I dont like to critize, but i think im not the only one who feels the mastermind is making strange moves. I didnt see anything broken with McKinney, so why fix it?

Aragornzxl: I'm not expert on Shaw, but it's no wonder you saw nothing broken with McKinley.
It would be a shock if you saw anything at all about him. He was the definition of a non-impact player. He was a zero against the run, and couldn't collapse the pocket vs. the pass.
Another cypher of a free agent, he was on the roster because we had nothing at the position. I'm not defending this move, necessarily. No one knows what Shaw will turn out to be here, but he's bounced from the Niners to the Dolphins to the Raiders, so I don't expect much. You can count his total tackles on two hands and his sacks on one (finger).
McKinley was another example of a "desperation" signing. Let's throw another body at the DT spot because we had nothing there. I can only hope bringing him aboard in the first place was Dumbquist's doing and not Shanny's.

WTF, this is stupid, McKinley was fine, Shaw is a scrub who got cut by the Raiders. He has 7 tackles in five years. Way to go Shanny, there some brilliant moves. Trade Foxworth for nothing, allow yourself to be terribly thin at RB and CB, and get rid of good players for players the Raiders didn't want.

Yeah McKinley was fine if you were ok with the Broncos giving up over 400pts last year.

the_man has a good point, but i'm confused as to why the broncos would add ANYTHING the (4-12) faiders cast off, unless it's game-planning hints, then cut him on tuesday................

Former Raider DT right before you play the Raiders. Pretty smart if you ask me. I would like to know what the Raiders are doing on defense and I bet Shaw can tell us.

    rondavu,
Do you really think the Broncos need to know the raider's gameplan to beat them? It seems like nobody knows about this Shaw kid. No body even saw him play, i bet. I guess i'll make my judgement until after the first game.

Alvin McKinley had around 14 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year in 15 games so his numbers aren't much better except for the fact that he actually played. Still, all I can figure from this is that Shanahan is rolling the dice and just seeing if one will be better than the other. I doubt Shaw will be making any Pro-bowls any time soon. In fact I would be suprised if he is on next years roster. Wait and see, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

    Pigskin,
Excuse me for pointing this out, but anything, and I mean ANYTHING is better than a raider cast-off. If he didn't cut it with the raiders: the haven for overpaid, mediocre players, what makes you think he will be an impact with us. Honestly, the Broncos shouldn't want any players on the raiders, except maybe Hall or DMac

Bingo, incognitoboy! Mckinley wasn't going to see a whole lot of action this year, making him expendable. They bring this kid in at probably half the salary, pick his brain and then drop him like a hot potato.

One would think that incognitoboy and spider hit the nail on the head. Seems sensible to me if McKinley was not making an impact.

Guys! relax. This guy is the roster spot they need for Brandon Marshall when he gets back in week 2. Nothing else.

Raiders had a decent defense last year. I agree that it is a good pick-up right before facing the Raiders on Monday night. If he doesn't show anything on the field, then he's gone as soon as B-Marsh comes back. Bet he's a lot cheaper than McKinley too.

If we were going to get rid of McKinley we should have picked-up Dre Moore off TB's practice squad but I guess we still could after game 1??
