Caught on tape: Boy shocked after man electrifies campaign sign

— Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard.

Turschak, with a degree in electrical engineering, hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday and also put up a surveillance camera.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt on Tuesday.

The boy's father, Andrew Noble, upset that his son had been shocked, showed up at Turschak's door. Soon an Orange County sheriff's deputy also showed up at the Turschak's home.

Noble said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together. Turschak said the boy intended to swap out the signs.

Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges.

Keep in mind this was 50 years ago and there were no laws about dog owners not letting their dogs roam the streets.

Ten years ago a guy was tired of the animals getting into his garden so he plugged a transformer into his house outlet and electrified the fence around his garden. One day he goes out there, leans over and as he is getting up he rests his hand on the fence to steady himself...and fried the crap out of himself. At the same time he had an 6 year old daughter living there. The police asked his wife how they kept the daughter away from the fence and the mother said they had told her to stay away from it. This was in Denver.

As for the little punk, his father lost a great chance to teach him resposibility and consequences. Now that dad will back him even when he breaks the law, they might as well get his cell ready for his next scientific journey--Lets see how a gun works.

You say that like it's a bad thing. When I was growing up we were taught to respect other People and their property even if we disagreed with them.

If it is ok, in your mind, for this kid to go onto someone else's private property and steal objects that do not belong to him, then where is the line drawn?

If It's ok if it's a political sign then what if it's a sign advertising the Real Estate firm that just fired my Mom? What if it's a sign announcing the birth of a baby and I just think it's ugly? What if I think your bush is ugly? Can I rip that out and throw it away? What if your dog annoys me? Can I steal that and release it in the woods somewhere? What if I think your car is cooler than me? Do I get to just take it because I can?

The lesson here is clear and simple: Keep your hands off other people's things.

On the other side, if the engineer seriously hurts someone by taking this into his own hands, I think charges should be filed. What if he created an electrical charge that really hurt someone? If I were him I would put a sign on his lawn identifying that there is electricity and that touching a sign could result in harm. Sort of like the beware of dog signs that we use. Go Obama !

If you go on someone's property without permission and are in the process of committing a crime, you are in the wrong - you are a criminal. The property owner is merely protecting his land, home, property. The kid is trespassing and attempting to steal. If the kid gets hurt in the process, it is NO ONE's fault other than his. He is personally accountable for his actions!

The father is wrong for teaching his kid it's ok to steal and damage others property. By sticking up for the kid he is teaching him that it is ok to mess with or take others stuff. Personal accountability and character do matter.

But, alas, I am wasting my breath. You agree with Obama - Spread the wealth- that it's ok to take from those who have, simply because they have it and you don't.

This year there has been too much attention for voter fraud to be much of a danger in Colorado.

As for the kid. I expect the dad spotted the camera and sent the kid because the law can't touch most kids that age. Expect the lawsuit to be a big, loud nothing. Dad would have to ask for a jury trial and the jury would be people like those here. Do you think a majority of people would take the kid's side after seeing the video? Me neither. The video will make sure that any lawsuit will fail. Lawyer and Dad will want to settle. The man who set up the sign will talk to his insurance company and they will stand firm. Expect the final statement to be something like, "We decided to forgive" or "In the current climate we could not get a fair hearing"

Real reason is the scum level lawyers who would file this case know when to cut losses. They will get their name out in the press a few times and have a free ad. Only winner in the lawsuit will be the lawyer.

I have a similar situation. We bought a home from a woman who had abandoned it to move to California because neighborhood vandals and burglars would attack her house and break in at will. We had some vandalism until one of the vandals tried to break in. We have two very large cats. The mother was a Prussian Blue. Just like every other pampered little darling, first thing she did when she got out of the house was to look up the biggest, baddest boy she could find to hang out with. SW Jefferson County. Daddy was a bobcat.

Both cats defend this house. We found a lot of T-shirt with blood on the edges and a mess inside the door. Within two days local kids wanted to see the attack cats. We obliged. Haven't had so much as an eyelash painted on the garage nor a footstep on the end of the driveway.

We walk the cats on leashes about twice a month .Were once stopped by a local cop so he could take pictures. He'd never seen such big cats, much less walking peacefully on a leash. Wanted to know where he could get one. Couldn't help him. Ours are spayed.

Anyone else notice that, no matter what the political viewpoint of the poster, the overwhelming response is that the kid got what was coming to him and too bad they can't do it to the real criminal, his father?
