A Grand Junction man who worked as a teacher's aide at Grand Mesa Middle School has been arrested after federal agents reportedly found thousands of images of child pornography on an external computer hard drive.

Michael Morrow, 63, told authorities he had about 13,000 images of pornography of "toddlers to teens" that he had been collecting for years, according to an arrest affidavit.

Morrow once worked as a copy editor for The Daily Sentinel and more recently wrote sport columns for The Free Press.

Morrow worked as a classified employee with School District 51 starting on Oct. 7 and tendered his resignation Tuesday, said spokesman Jeff Kirtland.

Morrow also had been a volunteer mentor for a boy at Mesa County Partners since May, said director Joe Higgins.

Morrow told officials he obtained the photos from a man named Chris in the Netherlands, the affidavit said.

I can't understand this. The penalty for possession of this material, after a determination that it was deliberate and the children were obviously underage, needs to reflect the fact that the owner has aided and abetted in the crimes committed to these children.

If this means cutting off his junk, I have no objection.

Of course if the offender were a blond woman, probation would be the most appropriate punishment.

You know, pervert is not a term used much today. I guess some think that it may be offensive. I guess that springs from it being "private behavior" (remember Bill Clinton). But perversion and being a pervert is fact and this guy is the real deal. Just imagine what you would do if you found out this guy was mentoring your son. I know what I would do with a sharp knife.

No wonder I couldn't find a long-term boyfriend when I was in my 20's. I was too old.

First there's the gay guys, then there are the guys in jail, next there are the drunks and druggies, more recently we created the Asperger's geeky category, plus currently we have a group of overseas boys fighting two wars. As if five categories of unavailable men were not enough, we now have this reservoir of unknown depth of perverts who somehow manage to make children the objects of their sexual gratification.

Pity the woman with a normal chest size. Half the men are looking for a large chest and rest want no chest development at all.

Victimizing children is unacceptable and the other prisoners are the ones who best drive that message home.
