Thousands from throughout the Denver area showed up to hear Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton address a rally at the Greek Theatre at Civic Center in Denver, Thursday, Sept. 17, 1992.

Sen. Barack Obama is expected to hold a rally Sunday in Civic Center, where two of the past three Democratic presidential candidates to win Colorado held political gatherings.
Obama's campaign confirmed Wednesday that he will be in Colorado on Sunday, but did not release a location or other details. A spokeswoman for the city's parks and recreation department said the campaign has a permit for Civic Center.
Bill Clinton spoke in the park's Greek Amphitheater in September 1992. He went on to defeat President Bush, making Clinton the first Democrat since Lyndon Johnson to win Colorado. At the time, Gov. Roy Romer put the crowd at 30,000, but other estimates ranged to 15,000.
That rally may have been Denver's largest political gathering since Harry Truman drew about 25,000 to the same site in his come-from-behind 1948 race.
Sen. Hillary Clinton will be in Aurora on Friday, campaigning for Obama. She will speak at General's Park, 1561 North Quentin St. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
A Quinnipiac University poll conducted in four battleground states shows that Obama has gained ground among crucial unaffiliated voters in Colorado. But neither campaign is taking anything for granted.
The Obama rally, which will be his third trip to Colorado since the Democratic National Convention in August, will cap a seven-day stretch that will see all four members of the major presidential tickets visit the state.
Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin crossed the state Monday, followed by her Democratic rival, Sen. Joe Biden, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain has scheduled a full day Friday, with confirmed stops in Denver and Durango and another expected in the Colorado Springs area.
Obama drew approximately 80,000 people to Invesco Field at Mile High for his acceptance speech during the Democratic National Convention.
His crowds of late have rivaled or exceeded that, with an estimated 100,000 turning out to see him in St. Louis and about 75,000 in Kansas City.
The Obama campaign's permit was pulled for Saturday, parks spokeswoman Michelle Madrid-Montoya said, but the campaign said the Illinois senator will be in Denver on Sunday.

Al-Qaida-linked Web site backs McCain as president
By Pamela Hess, AP
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iF...
WASHINGTON (AP) - Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.
The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."
SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message.
"If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.

I want Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to explain to me how you can give anyone a "tax break/refund/rebate" when they PAY NO INCOME TAXES now! Sales tax, payroll tax, medicare/medicaid and SS taxes do not count as we are talking about INCOME TAX and who makes more money. The word "tax credit" is a manufactured word from the liberal economic playbook that simply means "welfare handout", "income redistribution", or "transfer payment". Obama and the left view taxation and tax policy as a way to do social engineering and "making things fair" in their twisted view of the world. Life is inherently UNFAIR and pretending that you can make it less so by taking from those who make more and giving it to those who make less (or nothing) is an illusion and all smoke & mirrors.
Taxes and tax policy are a way for our govt to raise the money needed to fund the military, build roads, fund govt agencies, and do the things that the govt does. Providing a safety net to the elderly, the sick, and the very poor are included in those jobs. Taxes are NOT meant to "make life fair" or "spread wealth". Those tenets are at the root of socialism and communism, so when Obama is accused of that it is a correct accusation based on his own words and the true meanings of those systems.

They can only give that which they take from someone else and when you take too much from those that have more, they stop creating wealth and move elsewhere. Look to California as a model on this. They are BILLIONS in the hole because of just such an equation.
Deal with that because history proves it all to be true and as you probably have never studied much of that in your life maybe this is all new to you.

Follow Up - I was imcomplete on my economic model citing California; Any government can continue to payout money for education, roads, healthcare, "tax credits", etc. and every other demand placed on it by the citizens who keep voting for politicians who promise even more even after the money runs out and the revenue sources (many) have all left town due to taxes being too high and regulations being too restrictive to run a business and make a profit. What they do is run HUGE deficits, sell bonds (debt instruments), and pass all the debt along to future generations. Sound familiar??
This happens because no one is willing to CUT SPENDING and live within their means - both citizens and government alike. Wait until our government can no longer function at the state or federal level because no one will loan them money (happening in CA right now) and even the most needed services will be cut or slashed to the bone. I can hear the screams and howls from the left already.

Michael, you have a basic misconception about the government. The government isn't a "them". In America, the government is all of us. We can choose to govern how we see fit. I pay taxes, too, and plenty of them. But I'm tired of my taxes going to pay subsidies for companies (like exxon, etc) who don't want to help out the American people at a time when we're hurting most. I'm tired of paying for a 500 pound bomb used to root out an insurgent in a country that had no insurgents before we invaded them in the first place. If I am going to pay taxes, I want to get a return on my investment. I think we should expect something better than what we've been given by Bush.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and our society is only as well off as its poorest citizens. That starts in two basic places. Education and health care. As the good book says, we ARE our brothers' keepers. I don't think a family should have to go bankrupt because one of their children gets leukemia. Uncovered medical ailments are the number one cause of bankrupcy in the country, and that seems wrong. I don't think a student with debt strapped parents should have to give up the dream of going to college because he can't afford it. If we strengthen the people of this country, we will be better off.
That doesn't mean hand-outs. No one is in favor of helping those who won't help themselves. Reagan and Bush 1 promised to reform welfare, but it was Clinton who made "welfare to work" a reality. Similarly, Obama is promising college grants to students who donate not just military service, but civil service (peace corps, etc) as well. In addition, he wants to improve the current G.I. bill so that if you want to serve in the military, the least we can do is give you a free college education.

You support the fiscal policy of your fearless leader but you don't want to pay for their increased spending and budget in the form of taxes. So doesn't that mean that you are getting the services you voted for free of charge? Actually it's not free - the next generation is paying that tab FOR YOU! The funniest line on the planet..... an Obama supporter whining about "increased spending AND the national debt"
Of course, the fools fail to realize that Obama even admits that he will INCREASE spending and INCREASE the national debt!!!
Obama has promised that his tax increases will be given away to those who don't pay taxes. He calls it "spreading the wealth".
Of course, his idiot supporters are left stammering and stuttering when an average American (aka a plumber) asks them how Obama will be able to afford his other INCREASED SPENDING PLANS.... like nationalized health care. And head start. And tax cuts targeting special interest groups. And all the other schemes he's promised.
Simple. Obama will pay for his INCREASED SPENDING through INCREASED DEBT. He can't do it otherwise, since he promised to give out the funds from his tax increases to pay for tax "cuts" (aka handouts) to those who don't pay taxes!!
And so if Obama fools enough people into voting for his con-artist plan, the Obama dweebs will be back on here a year from now saying that INCREASED SPENDING and INCREASED DEBT is a good thing.

As tempting as it is to do the exact same thing, I would encourage restraint - regardless of who is elected. Even though we have different ideas about how to move our country forward, we aren't going to move it anywhere unless everyone gets on board. The last eight years have taught us that much.

You still pay taxes - you just paid too much and get some back. You owe more taxes if you did not already contribute enough through payroll deducions or prepayments based on your tax liability.
Also, I believe riverrafter is saying she and her husbands income total is such that her income alone doesn't cover the tax liability from their total combined income.

There you go, spreading that urban myth again. I thought I already shot down your theory. Almost every day we see the anti-Bush rant about “the last 8 years under Bush have been a disaster”. The Liberals must think the whole country hates Bush, just like they do. I’d like to apply some deductive reasoning and debunk their theory. Less than 4 years ago more than 64 million Americans voted to re-elect Bush. So, we could logically assume that these voters did not believe Bush was a “disaster” at that point in time, even after 9/11 and the Iraq War. Now, if you accept the current poll numbers, about 30% of Americans still “approve” of the job Bush is doing. Does that mean the remaining 70% agree with the Liberal premise? Well, I am in that 70% portion, but not for the same reasons as the Liberal hate mongers. I disapprove of Bush because he let his Conservative base down. He allowed a congress, controlled by Republicans, to spend without constraint. He appeased Democrats with education and new entitlement bills. He sponsored amnesty for illegal immigrants and he did not aggressively prosecute the war in Iraq. So, you have to logically assume that there is at least some component within the 70% disapproval factor who are like-minded Conservatives. Are we disappointed in Bush? Yes. Do we regret voting for him versus Kerry? No. Would we ever vote for Obama, a Socialist, instead of McCain. No. Now all you Liberals have to do is worry about whether that component is more than 20 %. We shall see.

Part of the reason 40% of Americans are paying no taxes is because they are earning so little money they don’t need to file. Some of these people are paying taxes but are not filing for their returns. See the link below and part of the article that explains Fred Thompson’s remarks on the 40% figure and the explanation. Read the entire article on Thompson's remarks.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-met...
"There's a small caveat to the 40 percent number — it includes nonfilers, typically taxpayers who don't have to file returns because their incomes are too low. It's logical to assume that most nonfilers don't pay income taxes, but it's possible that some did if they had income taxes withheld by an employer. This is probably a very small number, because people with low incomes have an economic incentive to file a return and get a refund.
The U.S. income tax system is progressive, which means that rates increase as income increases. Given that structure, it makes sense that people with higher incomes pay more taxes, and people with low incomes might pay no tax at all. Thompson's numbers are on the money, and we rate them True."
If these individuals had decent jobs their earnings would go up and they would pay more taxes. More jobs are always created by a Democratic administration. The economy also does better. Wall Street, the Stock Market, the very rich, the Republicans, the middle class and the very poor all do better under a Democratic administration.

Wow, people still spew the rigged ballots story? And then probably think Obama is the first clean politician in the last 100 years of Chicago politics?
Oddly enough, in the news today, the AP poll found it's a one point race. You Obama supporters better get back on the volunteer trail, lest the Messiah squander what was once a double digit lead.

I ask that same question the last two election. As far as all the gloom & doom predictions you cons are coming up with. I read the same cr-p in 1992. And guess what? We had the most prosperous 8 years we ever had. No one lost their guns. We had a welfare reform bill passed which took thousands off welfare and put them in tax paying job. But whats sad is because of the last 8 years they have lost those jobs and sent them back on welfare. So that is what voters are thinking.

dilligaf,
I think you are making a mistake by comparing Obama to Bill Clinton.
Bill Clinton started out much more centrist than Obama, and he was a very practical (or pragmatic) leader. He often led and managed based on what the polls said the American people thought he should do. He wanted to stay president for eight years. In a lot of issues, Clinton was not that far left of McCain.
Obama is as left as they get, and he and/or his people have an agenda (I say he and/or his people because I suspect someone is pulling his strings...but that may not be the case). They are like a pack of ravenous dogs about to be let out of the pen. They don't care about "four more years"...not yet anyway. Bill Clinton was thinking about four more years before he had even started the first four years.
Also consider that Republicans stole the house and senate two years after he was elected, so they didn't have much time to work with. I doubt that will happen this time around.
The sky may not be falling, but conservatives have reason to be scared of Obama.

JMac - you are just the guy that Obama wants to pay a little more in taxes as your patriotic duty. It sounds to me that if you are telling the truth and paying that much in taxes - you need to find a different accountant who knows what the legitimate deductions are. Look at the records - Obama took all those legit deductions.
By the way - the 1% pay a huge portion of the national taxes and they don't get money back from the govt. They keep it by claiming legit deductions. If it weren't for those 1%ers you would be paying a lot more in. Why don't we go to a flat tax or a consumption based tax. That way everyone pays based on what they use. A flat tax of 20% would create a huge surplus. The bottom 40% would actually have to pay instead of getting hand outs.

It sure looks like Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. This is a sad commentary about our country. This same majority apparently think that Obama and the Federal government can, or should, resolve their personal education, health, welfare, social and economic problems. If so, we are likely heading down a path towards socialism and away from capitalism. It is hard for me to believe that Obama’s “followers” are so naïve, idealistic and gullible.
