Which Broncos injury will hurt the team most this season?

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Wednesday cornerback Champ Bailey will miss at least a month with a tear in a groin muscle that he termed a "severe injury.''

Bailey could miss more time, but the Broncos are hoping he can return by late November or early December.

"I think it will be a month for sure,'' Shanahan said.

Linebacker Boss Bailey will have microfracture surgery on his knee within a week or so – they need swelling to go down – and the Broncos are hopeful he's back on the field in time for training camp in 2009.

Quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who played six plays against the Patriots in the first half Monday night, reaggravated a right elbow injury he suffered in training camp. The injury is severe enough that he will miss the rest of the season.

The Broncos added Ramsey and Boss Bailey to injured reserve Wednesday.

They will elevate Darrell Hackney from their practice squad to the active roster and are considering several veteran quarterbacks.

Running back Michael Pittman who has sore ribs on his right side and also had a stinger in Monday's game, was being sent for a precautionary exam by a neurosurgeon Wednesday to check his neck.

"But I'm fine, they're just going to make sure,'' Pittman said.

Wide receiver Chad Jackson, who was in for a workout recently, will be brought back to visit with Shanahan and could be signed as well.

Tackle Erik Pears, who had an appendectomy in Massachussetts Sunday night and was on the sideline for Monday night's game, was moved to reserve/non football injury, which finishes his season as well.

Dave, are you serious! If we don't "rah rah" we aren't fans? LMFAO....so if we objectively look at the team: it's horrendously bad defense, terrible kick-off returns, recent offensive slump, massive injuries, etc, etc....and someone makes a joke about it then that person isn't a fan? Tad facist aren't we?
This team is in first place because of a Hochuli gift and a missed field goal. Otherwise it's 2-5 going into this bye week. And as for the future of this team, there is nothing that makes it appear that this team is going to get better. They are committed to the layback zone on D that other teams are picking apart. They can't decide if they want to play 4-3 or 3-4, although it apparently doesn't matter cause they get the ball ran down their throat either way. The offense has been all but buffoonish the last 4 games, averaging 15 points a game, and doesn't look to have any hope of recovering the early season fireworks. As I said before the beggining of the season, Shanahan didn't shore up the D, the D picks from previous seasons weren't good, and this was a 7-9 team waiting to happen. Nice start. But no way was the offense going to be able to put enough points on the board to overcome the defensive shortcomings. Now with Champ and Boss hurt, the best DB and LB the team had, with the secondary in complete dissarray and the DLine all but useless....This team is done.

I realize they have just lost quite a few players to injury, but there are some positives to look at....They should have Torain ready for the Jets, they still are in first place in the West, they have two weeks to try to work out their problems, and although Favre and the Jets are a competitive team, the Broncs could be facing a tougher opponent coming out of the Bye week......

And if you think the Broncs are in bad shape...How would you like to be the Dolts, or the Raiduhs, or the Chiefs.....The dolts are in a real mess...All those Pro Bowlers, and they still have a losing record, and they will be facing a tougher second half schedule.....And of course, the Raiduhs and Chiefs will be battling it out for last place in the division, and the rights to a high draft pick......

So, for all you bandwagon jumpers....go ahead....bail out....the true Bronco fans will stay with the team....We dont need, nor want your support.....

When is he going to admit that he can't coach and be the GM? When is he going to throw the ball on 3rd and 5 instead of running into the middle of the line and then punting? The Broncos have a lot of talent, but not enough to make much noise in the playoffs if they somehow get there. But there is no depth on that team, all the injuries of this weeks game could be season ending for our playoff dreams too! Hey Mike, you had a good run, when Elway was still suiting up, but you seem to be stuck in neutral now. That last Super Bowl win was 10 years ago, are we going to ever sniff the playoffs again as real threat? The defense is very troubling, they can't seem to tackle (#37 stinks bounces off RB's when trying to tackle, get rid of him) anyone and can't collapse the pocket. We need a stand-out LB and a S that can hit and tackle and thats just for starters.

When Denver wins the next four, all the same whiners and bandwagon quiters on this very thread are going to get all ahead of themselves just long enough to get all hateful again when Denver makes an early playoff exit.

Anybody that bought into to all the hype regarding the start the Broncos had deserves to be all hateful today. So goes the NFL media and fan cycle, though. Always make them either twice as good or twice as bad as they really are. Its not like anybody should be surprised that these guys struggle at times. As was clear all along, they have serious problems in the secondary and they don't tackle well. That was as true at 3-0 as it is at 4-3. As for the Patriot game, it went exactly how it should go if you turn the ball over 6 times on the road. Denver was two Hall fumbles and a stupid personal foul away from, at the very least, losing respectably. But with parity as it is, momentum is the MVP in the NFL right now.

Long story short, Denver isn't nearly as bad as they looked on Monday, just as they aren't nearly as good as they looked the last time they played Monday night.

The real long term threat is that it will become fashionable to hate Cutler. Give the local media the greenlight and they'll run him out of here just like they ran Griese and Plummer out of here. I don't care who you are, the constant negative scrutiny takes its toll after awhile. Its ridiculous that Cutler is already being crucified for believing in himself and his team, and for struggling at times. Its his third freakin year. It takes more than three years to become a really good anything, much less an NFL quarterback. Look at Elway's stats his third year. In today's NFL with today's fans and media, Elway would have been declared a bust.

    Dynamic Dave....
I said before this season started, on BroncoTalk.com, that this defense would be one of the worst in the league: because of the safety situation, lack of a DLine, LBs that had no good middle backer and no back-ups on the outside, too many new faces with a new cooridnator (again), and the scheme that they were going to play didn't play to the strengths of the team (it's all on BroncoTalk). So far, I've been proven right. They can't stop the pass, they can't stop the run. Their best ranking of the major categories on Defense is 27th in 'Points Allowed'. And now with Boss and Champ hurt, they are going to just get buried unless they change the scheme.
I admit they had a nice start. But that was clearly helped by the Hochuli goof and the missed FG against NO. I'm not a pessimist or an optomist, I'm a realist. I analyze and make my own conclusions. You are a fanatic. This team is "that close" (read what Champ Bailey said) to nose diving to another horrific finish (7-9 or 6-10 season). How many playoff games we won since TD and Elway left again? The bye came at the right time. Maybe Shanahan can rev the team up, maybe not. I don't think so because nothing shows me they will. And i guess Bowlen will keep him on still, so we can go through this same crap next year...

He is not a defensive minded coach and never was. How many "great" defensive coordinators are available? Who are you gonna get to replace Shanahan or Slowick? Given the youth, the new defensive and offensive coordinaters, and the fact that we need a couple good defensive drafts, I thought this team would be lucky to be 8-8. I would love to see this team gel this year and win the super bowl, but that's not very realistic. I just hope they make the playoffs and get these young kids some post season experience. Just please don't change any coaches in the offseason, youth needs consistency. This team will be a force to contend with for the next decade. The foundation is in place. GO BRONCOS!

Offensively, there's a lot to be excited about. Drafting Cutler and Clady looks pretty smart right now. Same goes for picking Marshall in the 4th and the Ryan Harris and Chris Kuper picks look good. And wow, what about Royal!? Even Scheffler was a good pick despite his glass-like physique (does that honest assessment make me a non-fan?) I'll be here to say I told you so 9 games ago. In the end, Shanny will be gone, too. Rome even threw it out there today.

Rome is an overpaid monkey who never played a sport in his life. I at least, kickboxed in mine. He is just an opinion like many others, including mine. But, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, chill134, but anyone who gives up on a 1st place team is bandwagon. I've eaten crow in my day. This just won't be one of them. Maybe they will, maybe they won't get knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs, don't know. No crystal ball. But I know they will fight and scratch to get there. I, at least will be watching them with positive in my heart, not negativism and bad chi.

chill134, big difference between a "realist" and a "pessimist". Guess which one you're falling under? Anyways, it's been fun bantering, but I have to go teach class. Until next time.....

Two options, bring in BVP as a back-up, finally DUMP the mastermind, and bring in Elway as the coach.

Bring in Elway to coach??? So, just because he was a great QB, he's a better head coach then Shanahan despite having no coaching experience. And Cowher??? Give me a break, the guy is a good coach, but then who is your GM? Your VP of Football operations? Shanahan is a Genius. There is no other coach in the league with so much responsibility and who has put a competitive football team on the field every year. Does it work out every year? NO! But every year we have a chance, and in today's NFL, that's all you can ask for.

Winthrop, you are such a clown. I'm not Dave77 so get your facts straight before you open your mouth. Read the blog 1st, before you speak and you would have noticed my comment to Dave77. I may be outspoken but I don't rant. You assume too much.

kerrdawg, tell them like it is. But it wouldn't matter what you say to them, like Winthrop, for example. He doesn't read the blogs thoroughly before he goes off on somebody. He spouts off at me because he thought I was the prozac deficient Dave77. You and I and a few others have been trying to tell these people that firing Shanahan would be moronic, but they aren't Broncos fans. They may watch them occasionally, or when they're winning, but that's it. When Denver starts to lose, they get all negative and talk down on their "so-called-team". They say they won't watch them anymore because it's too painful, etc.. When I taught martial arts at my studio, I never let my kids bring their negativity to the class. If something's bothering them, I let them work it out on the mat or the bag. The Broncos will try to make sure the negativity doesn't get brought to the locker room. They work it out on the field. The fans can be "overly-critical". They want "drastic changes" for a 1st place team. Really makes sense, huh?

Dave, never liked Chad Jackson or Darrel (at least not good fantasy point players).
This team is going to be great but it needs this season to learn how. We probably have too many problems on D to fix entirely by next year but our O is good/great now; yes all O's have there ups and downs and right now we don't have a D to help us win when they O is having a "down".
I would have been for getting rid of Shanahan 2-3 years ago; now is not the time we need to stay the course and take our lumps as they come!

    Go Broncos!

Brain, as I said, earlier before all the other garbage, I never saw him play so I knew nothing about him. D. Jackson needs to go. I don't see the teams D fixing it all this year, either. But hopefully they can do a bit better then they have. Enough anyways, to help Denver get more W's. They need to start playing the ball, not the man.

Absolutley agree Dave; the ball, quit playing the blocker/man and get to the BALL; do not focus on anything but where the ball is, thats how I played!
