Numbers are strong for downtown hotels

Downtown Denver hotels had a strong showing in September, off only slightly from the August numbers, which were boosted by the Democratic National Convention, according to the Rocky Mountain Lodging Report released Monday.

The average occupancy rate for hotels downtown was 79.5 percent in September, compared with 80.8 percent in August.

The average room rate was $174.91 last month, down about 3 percent from the $180.42 in August, according to the report by Robert S. Benton & Associates.

Downtown had the highest occupancy rate and the highest room rate in the Denver area.

Overall, the occupancy rate for hotels in the Denver area stood at 73.1 percent in September, compared with 75.5 percent in September 2007. However, the average daily room rate was $125.93, compared with $117.15 a year earlier.

In the first nine months of the year, the average occupancy rate was 69 percent, compared with 69.6 percent a year earlier. And the average room rate was $119.99, compared with $111.41 in September 2007.

For the entire state, the average occupancy rate was 66.5 percent in September, compared with 70.5 percent in September 2007. The average daily room rate for the state was $124.16 in September, compared with $118.06 in September 2007.
