U.S. District Court Judge Edward Nottingham resigned today amid allegations he asked a prostitute to lie about their relationship.

In a prepared statement released by his attorney's office, Nottingham said he is "deeply remorseful for his actions." He said resignation was "in the best interest of all concerned."

His involvement with strip clubs and prostitutes became public last year during a divorce. Last week, 9News broadcast an interview with a woman who said she was a prostitute and that Nottingham had talked with her about lying to investigators about their relationship. The Rocky and 9News broke the news last week that Nottingham would step down.

The judge's attorney issued the following statement in his behalf:

"In a letter to President Bush today, Judge Nottingham has resigned his commission as a United States District Judge for the District of Colorado. He has done so because it is in the best interest of all concerned. It is in the public interest and the interest of the federal judiciary because it will terminate his judgeship and begin to restore public confidence in an institution which he profoundly respects. He is deeply remorseful for his actions. He is also embarrassed and ashamed for any loss of confidence caused by those actions and attendant publicity and sincerely apologies to the public and the judiciary.

"Judge Nottingham also believes that the resignation is necessary for him to begin taking the necessary steps to put this matter behind him. Therefore, beyond this statement, neither he nor any of his representatives will have further public comment."

Turns out Judge Naughty was pretty nasty. Of course, his personal conduct in no way clouded his performance on the bench. I guess he can still be an attorney, assuming he can remember what the law is about in the first place (i.e., no one is above it and no one is beneath its protections).

I suppose now he can still practice law? Maybe he'll turn to legal defense work, and represent persons charged with prostitution. Perhaps he can even work out some creative payment terms for his clients...

Just a quick note, if you have never seen any of Kay's post before get ready for some long dragged out rants that get more paranoid as it goes on.

Kay Sieverding is, um, an "interesting" individual. Her statement "I think that probably the defense lawyers in my civil case paid for ex judge N's prostitutes" is typical of her charges and lack of facts for them.

No, the defense lawyers didn't pay for Nottingham's prostitutes. We the taxpayers did. That's why it's good that Nottingham resigned.

    wyhammertime,
Better watch it about equating lawyers with prostitutes. The prostitute (lawyer) lovers will chastise your :-)

Davies, LMAO! Actually the "creative payments" you talked about are against the rules of the American Brothel (Bar) Association. They feel that it is double billing for essentially the same service ;-)

WarrenJimmyBuffet, I can name a few that would have no problem scarfing up this dirtball, Sawaya, Azar, Norton Frickie, and any of the others that advertise on the tube.
