— A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.

Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl's birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.

"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News earlier this week. "It's going to take some more convincing."

Ciptak, a blood bank employee for the American Red Cross, said he named his third child after John McCain and Sarah Palin to "to get the word out" about the campaign.

"I took one for the cause," he said. "I can't give a lot of financial support for the (McCain/Palin) campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little."

This guy has a few screws loose.... ahhh yeah... maybe more than a few. So on second thought, that name is perfect for her if she lives up to her father's intelligence.

I would feel just the same way if he had named his kid after the Obama ticket - if he and his wife had already decided on a name for the child he had no business going behind her back and changing it. I feel sorry for the kid - to be saddled by this for the rest of her life.

How do you secretly name a kid? Isn't the name written down on the birth certificate before the parents sign?

This is very bad, but not the worst I've heard. My brother worked at an inner-city hospital and the docs kept a list of the awful names the mothers selected for their children. The only one I can remember is Chlamydia. What he said was that the mothers would hear the docs talking about things, in this case, a disease, and would think the word sounded pleasant enough for a name.

The child can change her name legally when she is older. However the stigma will be left with her. The father was wrong. Regardless of who wins - the reason for naming a child was lame!
