Colt McCoy didn’t just quarterback his Texas Longhorns to the No. 1 spot in both polls with a big victory against Red River rival Oklahoma. He also jumped into the top spot in the Rocky Mountain News’ weekly Heisman Trophy poll.

McCoy, nearly a unanimous pick by the panel, vaulted from the No. 3 spot he held last week to No. 1. He unseated Missouri QB Chase Daniel, who had held the top spot since the first poll on Sept. 23. Daniel, who received the other first-place vote, fell to No. 4 this week.

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford was second, Michigan State running back Javon Ringer third and Florida QB Tim Tebow, the reigning Heisman winner, fifth.

The Rocky’s poll is in its 22nd year, making it the longest-running weekly Heisman ranking in the country. The final poll, taken in December, correctly has predicted the Heisman winner in 18 of the previous 21 seasons. Ten voters select five players each week. The tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses.
