SkyFuel Inc. on Friday unveiled its SkyTrough solar power plant system at its research center in Arvada.
The system is a parabolic trough that uses silver encased in plastic, rather than mirrored glass, to concentrate sunlight and harness heat to produce electricity. Parabolic trough is a type of technology which can be used in utility-scale, solar power plants.
SkyFuel says its SkyTrough, at 375 feet long and 20 feet tall, is the largest ever built and the system would cost 35 percent less than other commercially available systems.
