Regional scene: With Marshall's goal, CU surprises Texas

Nikki Marshall's goal in the 74th minute sparked the 22nd- ranked University of Colorado women's soccer team (10-2-2, 4- 1-1 Big 12 Conference) to a 1-0 upset win against 10th-ranked Texas (8-2-2, 1-2-1) on Friday in Boulder.
Marshall's goal, her sixth this season, tied her with former Buffaloes athlete Katie Griffin for the program lead in career goals, with 32.
"Nikki's a thoroughbred," CU coach Bill Hempen said. "When she gets in the gap, she just pulls away."
* Taryn Hemmings scored in the 34th minute to lift the University of Denver (12-1-1, 5-0 Sun Belt Conference) to a 1-0 win against Troy (6-6-2, 1-4) in Troy, Ala.
* Kelly LaVoie scored two goals to power Colorado College (10-3-1, 4-1 Conference USA) to a 6-0 win against Southern Mississippi (5-7-1, 1-4) in Colorado Springs.
* Tamika Wilson scored in the 78th minute to steer Wyoming (8-5-1, 2-0 Mountain West Conference) to a 1-0 win against Texas Christian (9-2-1, 1-1) in Laramie.
* Jaimie Stephensen scored two goals to push Metro State (10-1-2, 6-0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to a 4-0 road win against Colorado State-Pueblo (5-5-1, 3-3).
* Erick Shisler, Jamie MacArthur and Nicole Kluk scored goals to guide Fort Lewis (8-3-1, 6-0 RMAC) to a 3-0 victory against Colorado Christian (3- 9, 1-6) in Durango.
* Kylie Kegans and Natalie Koen scored goals to lead Mesa State (9-5, 4-3 RMAC) to a 2-0 win against Adams State (1-13, 0-7) in Grand Junction.
* Monica Vazquez's goal in the 11th minute lifted New Mexico Highlands (5-7-1) to a 1-0 victory against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (3-8-1) in Las Vegas, N.M.
SKYHAWKS ROMP Tom Settle recorded a goal and three assists to help the NCAA Division II third-ranked Fort Lewis men's soccer team (9-1-2, 5-0-2) to a 7- 0 rout of Colorado Christian (0- 13, 0-7) in Durango.
* Sterling Copeland scored two goals to spark Regis University (4-6-1, 3-3 RMAC) to a 2-0 road win against UCCS (3-7-2, 1-5-1).
* Udobong Obotette scored two goals to power CSU-Pueblo (8-5, 4-3 RMAC) to a 3-2 home win against Metro State (7-3-2, 4-1-2).
* Cale Haas and Max Nevermann scored goals to push the Colorado School of Mines (6-4- 2, 4-1-2 RMAC) to a 2-0 victory against Mesa State (7-6, 3-4) in Grand Junction.
PIONEERS SLIP Yarimar Rosa generated 33 kills in helping lead the Florida International volleyball team (14-4, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) to a 24-26, 22- 25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-13 victory against DU (15-3, 4-1) on Friday in Miami.
The loss ended a nine- match winning streak for the Pioneers.
SHERLOCK STRUGGLES DU junior golfer Stephanie Sherlock shot a 6-over 79 and tumbled into a tie for 34th place individually at the Women's World Amateur Team Championship at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.
Barrie, Ontario, resident Sherlock has a three-round 227 as a member of the Canadian team.
* Dawn Shockley shot a first- round 73 to help the DU women's golf team into 16th place after the first day of the Mercedes-Benz Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., 22 shots behind leader Tennessee.
FALCONS CRUISE Brent Olson and Jacques Lamoureux each recorded a goal and an assist to power the Air Force hockey team to a 4-1 win, in its season opener, against Atlantic Hockey Association rival Sacred Heart in Milford, Conn.
* Chad Rau's second-period goal lifted Colorado College to a 1-0 win Friday against Alabama-Huntsville in their season opener at the World Arena.
