Fishing hot spot: Trinidad Reservoir

* Why here? The reservoir offers potentially good fishing for a mix of warm- and cold-water fish species, including walleyes, trout, bass, perch and catfish amid uncrowded state-park amenities.
* What's hot? Fishing has been excellent for walleyes and perch.
* Tackle box: For walleyes, jigs, crankbaits and worm harnesses; for perch, jigs and worms; for trout, typical baits and lures; for bass, spinnerbaits and soft-plastic lures; for catfish, night crawlers and prepared baits.
* Best times: Mornings and late afternoons.
* How to get there: From Denver, head south on Interstate 25 to Trinidad. Turn west on Colorado 12 and proceed 31/2 miles to the state-park entrance.
