Denver County voter registration form issue affects thousands

Up to 3,000 voters in Denver County who failed to check a little box on their voter registration forms are being contacted to fix the oversight.
The problem has to do with the identification section of the registration form that asks for the person's driver's license or state ID number.
Applicants who do not have either one are supposed to check a box indicating that, and then provide the last four digits of their Social Security number.
But if the box is not checked, the registration is considered incomplete, even if the Social Security number is provided. Applicants who do not fix the problem before the election will have to cast a provisional ballot on Election Day. A provisional ballot is counted after the election if eligibility is verified.
County election workers are sending out thousands of letters to voters asking them to send in another form with the box checked or to come in to resolve the issue.
In December, the secretary of state required voters to be contacted if the box is unchecked.
