Denver police upped the reward Monday for information in the August killing of an Adams County prosecutor, saying they hope it will spur someone to "do the right thing."
The reward now stands at $125,000.
"I'm hoping that with this reward, people are going to say, 'Wow,' and try to remember something," Chief of Detectives Dave Fisher said. "Someone out there knows exactly what happened and who's responsible, and that's really where we're trying to get with this."
Sean May, 37, was gunned down about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 outside his north Denver home as he returned from work. The prosecutor left behind a wife who is pregnant with their first child.
May was shot in the head and lower back, an autopsy found. Police have said that the killing was "in cold blood."
Fisher said Monday that detectives still don't know whether May's killing was related to his work. Detectives are "exploring all aspects of Sean May's personal and professional life," Fisher said.
The additional reward money was provided by the FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Denver Police Foundation; and the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation, Police Chief Gerry Whitman said.
Jim Davis, special agent in charge of the FBI in Denver, said that May "was the victim of a cowardly ambush in his own backyard."
"Whoever is responsible for this has to be punished," Davis said. "It's important to us in this community, it's important to the entire state that we resolve this."
Police opted to raise the reward after information on the streets indicated that some people were not aware of May's death, Fisher said.
Police are looking for a man who was seen running from the crime scene.
"We feel that this large reward gives us another tool to hopefully bring this to a final conclusion," Fisher said.

"Why is it when a taxpayer is murdered there is NO reward nor do the cops seem to get very excited about the whole thing, but when a tax consuming LE type is murdered then there is a big reward and all of our resources are wasted on one man?"
