Immigrant health care offered

Mexico, U.S. team up on free clinics in Denver

Free preventive health care will be offered beginning today to immigrants who have settled in Colorado.

The Mexican and U.S. governments will offer the free services through Friday, and next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Information will be distributed and medical screening will be conducted at the Consulate General of Mexico, 5350 Leetsdale Drive in Denver, as part of Binational Health Week.

Mexican government officials and health professionals said the program is needed to reach the many Hispanic immigrants who are underinsured and don't have access to medical care, said Adriana Valdes, consul general spokeswoman.

The clinics are open, however, to "all the public, people from any country, even Americans," Valdes said.

Volunteers will perform tests for blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol levels, and conduct HIV and AIDS screenings.

Representatives from the American Diabetes Association will assist in the screening. Vision and dental exams also will be administered.

The only cost that visitors will be required to cover is for flu shots, which will be $10. Shots will be administered today and Tuesday, according to organizers.

Workshops also will be held to promote healthy eating habits, fight drug and alcohol addictions, and offer advice on obtaining medical insurance.

In addition to Colorado, the health awareness program will take place in 39 other states and seven other countries where Mexican citizens reside and consular services are provided.

It is the fourth year that the governments have hosted the health week. For more information, call 303-331-1110.

Little did we know this was the 4th "YEAR" of this "Universal Health Care Program"! This is a birds-eye view of what's to come beginning next year when the "Demos" pass National Health Care for all EXCLUDING, of course, the employed.

Give me a break. This program is being offered in 40 states? Imagine the cost of these blood screenings! Does anyone really believe that Mexico is contributing to the cost? Somehow we need to get transparency in government so we can have a say before our tax money is spent in this way. We are practically broke trying to keep 4 people healthy, in glasses/contacts/braces, etc. while illegals get free services. How does ICE deal with/feel about an in-your-face program like this. PULEEZE.

There needs to be an ICE jail bus sitting at these "immigrant health fairs" and every illegal that shows up needs to be tossed in and driven straight to the nearest border.

I am willing to bet which government is paying the vast majority of this bill, and who's infastructure will be suffering the human toll here as well. I dont see why, if the Mexican government was so very concerned, they didn't inlist, hire, and provide health care at they're consulates.

Darn, no wonder Obama is gonna raise my Tax's

I really really don't get this... when an immigrant comes here legally they have to prove that they can make it here without gov't assistance. In fact they have to have a sponsor that signs / gives an oath to always financially take care of the alien. SO - what is this for then? All I can figure is that this is truely ONLY meant for the Illegals... And - BTW there are immigrants from all over europe - don't see them getting free health stuff... This is just not quite right!

If we can give it to them for free then we need to demand it for all taxpaying Americans.
The illegals pay nothing into our society and yet they will get it for free.
The rich want cheap uneducated people they can enslave.
They know if these people complain they can just turn them over to I.C.E. and the problem is gone.
We need to arrest and impound all property of people who employ these people.
I think a little jail time might make some people hire Americans and pay the going wage.
The only good Mexican is on the other side of the Rio Grande.
Close the borders and start deporting them.
We need a community free of murdering dope dealing illegal aliens.

I can't get over this! Although a good program, why don't they park a ICE van outside and nail these people. How many of them do you think will drive to this with out insurance or licenses? It seems to me the only fool here is me who pays for my license, insurance and any vilotations that I have committed. Dang, I hate it when I realize I'm an idiot for playing by the rules!

Now you know how millions of Americans feel.
I wonder if the taxpaying American shows up will they deny them a check up.
If they do we need to sue the governments of both countries for descrimination.
This might get free healthcare for all americans.
Just a thought to bad some lawyer has not thought of pursuing the governments for discriminating against the taxpayers.
