CRAIG, Colo. (AP) _ Montrose took the team lead after the first day of Class 4A state boys golf tournament Monday with 221 strokes.
But Highlands Ranch's Valor Christian is not far behind. The high school, participating in the its first year of sanctioned golf under the Colorado High School Activities Association, is only two strokes behind the lead.
D'Evelyn is in third place with 224 strokes.
Valor Christian's Wyndham Clark is in first place in the individual results, shooting the lone sub par round of the day, a 4-under-par 66. Tournament favorite Nick Umholtz of Greeley Central is seven shots back.
Justin Russell of Montrose and Brenden Beeg of D'Evelyn are tied in second, four shots off the pace.
