Palin defends terrorist comment against Obama
Associated Press
Published October 4, 2008 at 1:02 p.m.
BURLINGAME, Calif Sarah Palin defended her claim that Barack Obama "pals around with terrorists," saying the Democratic presidential nominee's association with a 1960s radical is an issue that is "fair to talk about."
Obama has denounced the radical views and actions of Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground group during the Vietnam era. On Sunday, he dismissed the criticism from the McCain campaign, leveled by Palin, as "smears" meant to distract voters from real problems such as the troubled economy.
Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, launched the attack Saturday, repeating it at three different events and signaling a new strategy by John McCain's presidential campaign to go after Obama's character.
"The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn't been talked about," Palin said as she boarded her plane in Long Beach, Calif. "I think it's fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career, in the guy's living room."
At issue is Obama's association with Ayers. Both have served on the same Chicago charity and live near each other in Chicago. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Obama when Obama first ran for office in the mid-1990s, the event cited by Palin.
But while Ayers and Obama are acquainted, the charge that they "pal around" is a stretch of any reading of the public record. And it's simply wrong to suggest that they were associated while Ayers was committing terrorist acts. Obama was 8 years old at the time the Weather Underground claimed credit for numerous bombings and was blamed for a pipe bomb that killed a San Francisco policeman.
At a rally in North Carolina, Obama countered that McCain and his campaign "are gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance." The Democrat described the criticism as "Swiftboat-style attacks on me," a reference to the unsubstantiated allegations about 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry's decorated military record in Vietnam.
During her stop in California, Palin was asked about an Associated Press analysis that said her charge about Ayers was unsubstantiated, a point made by other news organizations, and the criticism carried a "racially tinged subtext that McCain may come to regret."
"The Associated Press is wrong," Palin said. "The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn't been talked about, and I think it's fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career, in the guy's living room."
In fact, Obama was questioned about Ayers during a prime-time Democratic debate against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton prior to April's Pennsylvania primary.
Palin, recharged after last week's debate, is animating the party's conservative wing with harsh attacks against Obama. She's courting high-dollar donors for campaign cash. And she is looking to wrestle away women and independent voters from the Democrats.
"The heels are on, the gloves are off," she declares, a threat delivered with a smile.
With that message, the campaign is sending her on a whirlwind tour of political trouble spots.
On Sunday, she was headed for a rally in Omaha, Neb., a defensive move in one of the two states in the nation that can split their electoral votes. Her visit illustrated the depth of worry within the McCain camp. Since 1964, all five of the state's electoral votes have gone to the Republican presidential candidate.
On Monday, she begins a two-day, event packed tour of Florida that stretches from Naples in the South to Pensacola in the panhandle. North Carolina and Pennsylvania are next.
After a hold-your-ground debate performance last week, Palin is back to where she was after her show-stopping speech at the Republican convention a month ago — the top draw in the McCain-Palin ticket.
About 10,000 people came to her rally Saturday in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson. She raised $2 million in one California fundraiser for the Republican Party's McCain-Palin Victory 2008 fund. She's getting the star treatment from the likes of Grammy winner Vikky Carr and actor Robert Duvall.
She's still the carefully handled national politics greenhorn. Reporters traveling on her plane are kept at a distance. At fundraising events she doesn't take questions in public from donors, as McCain does. Contributors greet her privately before she allows the press in for her stump speech.
She brushes off some of her criticism as if it were lint on her jacket.
"People say that I speak too simply, or don't have quite the — I don't have my Thesaurus in my back pocket all along through my speeches," she told donors in Englewood, Col. "Well I don't have time for that."

The only thing that uncommitted voters are worried about are real issues. This sort of rhetoric from Palin is exactly what uncommitted folks DON'T want to hear. Uncommitted voters are tired of this nastiness, which does not serve to bring us together, but rather further polarizes the country. Palin is a polarizing agent, not someone who "reaches across the aisle".

Ayers had identified Bernadine Dohrn as the person who bombed a San Francisco police station in February 1970, killing one officer and injuring two others.
Obama has been less than forthcoming with information that might shed light on these close associations in his past. Until quite recently, researchers have been blocked from accessing the document archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, now held at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This delay has provided ample time to review and quite possibly sanitize the contents. When Klonsky was identified online earlier this year, all his posts at Obama's website were instantly deleted. Documentation concerning many aspects of Obama's life remains unavailable, including papers from his time in college and law school, medical records, law firm clients, and files as an Illinois State Senator.
Obama's campaign attorney has tried to suppress a TV ad that calls attention to his connection with Ayers, threatening the broadcast licenses of TV station managers and calling for the Justice Department to prosecute those who produced and financed the ad.
Throughout his life, Barack Obama has selected his mentors from the ranks of those who despise the United States. This common thread connects Hawaiian Communist Party organizer Frank Marshall Davis, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright ("God bless America? No, no... God DAMN America!") and the former Weatherman leaders, Ayers and Dohrn.

Her comments and actions in recent weeks definitively show that she ISN'T the so-called Christian she portends to be, AND she ISN'T even remotely fit for the Vice Presidency. Did McCain find her in a box of Cracker Jacks? Oh wait.... that's insulting to Cracker Jacks. I am truly beginning to think Palin is in dire need of psychiatric evaluation.
If the GOP even remotely embraces the values they espouse of then they WILL swiftly boot Palin from the ticket – quicker than dropping the hottest potato.
Here's a good excuse for the GOP... give her the boot by claiming she's got a horrible post-partem chemical imbalance which has resulted in uncontrollable, mindless twitter talk. Either that the GOP needs to say what a majority of American’s have abundantly figured out… she's just plain stupid.

After 14 years in Congress, Tom Davis (R-Virginia) is giving up his place in the bucket brigade. Someone else will have to put out the fire. If anyone wants to try. …
The revolution is over, the thrill is gone and the Republican brand under President Bush has, in Davis’s view, been so tarnished that, as he likes to say, “if we were a dog food, they would take us off the shelf.” These will be Davis’s last few weeks in Congress. He decided against re-election, disaffected by the partisanship, by a process he calls broken, by a party he considers hijacked by social conservatives. “We’re just not getting much done,” he said. …
The way Davis sees it, the system has become dysfunctional. Bush has so destroyed the party’s public standing and Congress has become so infected with a win-at-all-costs mentality that there is no point in staying. …

Al Qaeda and similar terrorist networks rely on the Bush and Republican foreign policy of unilateral empire building and economic warfare to create their recruiting base. Terrorists know that this policy alienates the United States from its allies and antagonizes the people and nations that will eventually band together against a common enemy (who will no longer have allies left in the world). In other words, it ultimately weakens the US and stregthens terrorist organizations.
A 'maverick' foreign policy of economic terrorism and global bullying does not make us more secure; in fact, it has the opposite effect.

The Obama/Ayers/Dorn connection is a well-known fact. This is old news. The truth is, Obama could be seen boogie-boarding with bin Ladin in Maui this weekend and the mainstream media would just shrug their collective shoulders. Obama launched his political career at Ayers house! They aren't just two guys who happen to live in the same neighborhood. And don't give me this "Obama was only eight" nonsense. Ayers has NEVER renounced his terrorist past - he actually says he is sorry they didn't do more. Hanging out with him today is the same has hanging out with him back in his 'glory' days.
The fact is, the mainstream media has already ordained Obama as the next President and they aren't about to actually report on anything that might upset the applecart.
My advice to Governor Sarah Palin: The Left hates you! They hated you the day John McCain choose you to run with him strictly because you are a REPUBLICAN. They hated you then, they hate you now and they are going to hate you until the end of time because you are a CONSERVATIVE. You're never going to win these people over so just keep smiling and SPEAKING THE TRUTH.
William Ayers IS a terrorist.
Bernadine Dorn IS a terrorist.
Jeremiah Wright IS a racist.
Tony Rezko IS a convicted felon.
ALL of these ARE personal friends of Obama's.
Obama has received more money from Fannie/Freddie than ANY other politician over the last 3 years.
Obama DOES support partial-birth abortion.
All of that is true. McCain and Palin just have to keep hammering away at the TRUTH over the next month and the voters will start to see what kind of people Obama surrounds himself with (it's about his judgement).
Make no mistake. I still think Obama is going to win simply because of the current circumstances. But, people still need to know who Obama is and who will be setting the tone for the next four years. Maybe if people know the REAL Obama, they will get more Republicans in the House and Senate.

You take something someone actually said, like SueSue3275 said, "During any of the primaries, debates, etc.-----Fox had more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined."
Then you post a rebuttal like the link below, which clearly shows that on the evening of the VP debates Fox News Channel had 9.16 million viewers, CNN had 7.61 million, and MSNBC had 3.79 million viewers. If you combine CNN's viewership with MSNBC's, as Sue3275 suggested, you come to a total of 11.4 million viewers. Clearly Fox News did not have more viewers for the VP debate "than CNN and MSNBC combined".

www.ObamaCrimes.com
As MOST MEDIA OUTLETS HAVE NOT reported, prominent Pennsylvania Democrat and attorney Philip J. Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court two months ago claiming Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and therefore not eligible to be elected president.
Berg said the longer the DNC tries to ignore his lawsuit or make it go away – instead of just providing the documents – the more convinced he is that his accusations are correct.
Despite assertions by the Washington Post, FactChecker.org and other organizations that Obama has produced a certified Hawaiian birth certificate, Berg said he remains "99.99 percent sure" that Obama's Birth certificate is a fake and he wants a court, not a website, to determine its validity.
Earlier last week, lawyers for Obama and the DNC filed a joint motion to dismiss Berg's lawsuit.
"Since then, I have asked by way of press release that Howard Dean resign, because (the DNC members) are not fulfilling their duties," Berg said.
"The DNC has a responsibility to all Democrats in this country to make sure that all of their candidates are properly vetted and properly qualified," Berg added. "I think it's really an outrage"!
Berg is frustrated, not only with his own party's leadership for allegedly not investigating Obama's background, but also with the major news outlets for failing as well.
"I should also be suing the national media and their disgrace for not properly vetting, inspecting or checking on Barack Obama.
"Look what they're doing to Governor Palin: They're opening up her closet doors, they're going through everything personal, but no one has ever gone after Obama. It doesn't make sense," Berg said.
Berg acknowledges that as long as his lawsuit remains outstanding, the public will talk, and he said he wants Obama to either quickly prove him wrong - or the court to quickly prove him right.
"I've been on about 50 radio shows around the country," Berg said, "and on every one I've put out a challenge: Barack Obama, if I'm wrong, just come forth with certified copies of these documents and I'll close down the case."
When asked what he would do if the DNC succeeded in getting his case dismissed, Berg said he would "immediately file an appeal to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and if we don't get a fair ruling there, immediately to the U.S. Supreme Court."
"We're dealing with the U.S. Constitution and it must be followed," Berg explained. "I want the Constitution enforced; that's my main reason for doing this.
"The real outrage is that there's nothing in our system that provides that a candidate must provide that his qualifications are true and correct before he or she runs, and that safeguard should be put into our system by law," Berg said.

Victory in Iraq will be achieved when we can turn over the security of an area to the Iraqi government and have it remain peaceful. Victory in Iraq will be when liberals can visit from the United States and finally have to admit that the average person is much better off than they were under Hussein.

1981 “Guilty as hel*. Free as a bird. America is a great country,” Ayers said when interviewed by David Horowitz.

Message to the News Media: Instead of trying to dig up dirt on Sarah Palin, why don’t you cover indepth stories such as the Obama-Ayers relationship just for starters.

Over 300 million people in this country and I have to make a choice between Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin!

Unlike Clinton, Bush did not take the Bin Laden threat seriously until after Sept. 11. Clinton attempted to kill Bin Laden on a number occasions. Richard Clarke requested a meeting with Bush when he first got in office to discuss the Bin Laden threat. Clarke was put on the backburner. One month prior to Sept. 11, Bush received a memo expressing the urgency of the Bin Laden threat. Bush did nothing and the rest is history.
Because both are from the same city, Obama and Ayres know each other. Where is your evidence they are friends? Did you not read the article? They are not close nor does Obama endorse his ideology.
To make such as association is morally and ethically irresponsible. It is indicative of a morally bankrupt person.

So, where's Obama's birth certificate? So, why won't he release his REAL birth certificate instead of a copy which has been proven to be false. This man is NOT HONEST and he has no character.
Nobama loves terrorists and people who hate America. I don't want him as my president.
Don't me misled by his polished exterior. Here is a man who is an EXTREME anti-American. He could ruin this democracy beyond repair. Are you willing to take a chance on his "hope" and "change" bull s--t ? Get out your history books on Hitler and plug in the name Obama. It is frightening and very revealing.

Looks like Nobama is going to get whacked by his many radical friends by the GOP because the media refuses to do it's job.
He is going to have to do some explaining now that he should have had to do a long time ago before he got the nominee.
Everyone knows Hillary would be the nominee if the media would have done it's job.
Of course the Democrats don't want these Osbama bones to be uncovered."
Yeah Shaggy, you tell it dude!(heavy sarcasm!) Obama was what, maybe 6 or 7 when Bill Ayers was being watched by the FBI. IF Ayers IS a true domestic threat, why is he not at Guantanamo, or in prison, instead of teaching. Maybe he is radical, but the government is also putting anti-war groups and civil rights groups with no history of violence on the domestic terrorist list as well. Your line of thinking was best exposed by a MadTV spoof of a John McCain ad last night, where they showed a school teacher saying "There was no way Barack Obama would have gone to Vietnam, he was only 7 years old", and then they turn that around to say "Barack Obama, there was NO WAY he would go to Vietnam!" There are a LOT of people, even on this board, who could very easily be labeled as domestic terrorists. I've seen a couple posts here by people supporting the GOP side of things talking about open revolt because of the Bailout plan. Well, my friend, under the Uniform Code of Military Conduct, that is known as Sedition. And I would not be surprised if there is similar language deep in the Patriot Act. So, judging from the fact that these people are probably registered Republicans, I think the GOP is advocating Sedition and Treason.
