We allowed thugs to represent themselves as legitimate business people

The Simple Truth; The banking meltdown occurred because we allowed thugs to represent themselves as legitimate business people. These situations happen when there is a complete disregard for accountability, creditability and holding the line on common sense business ethics. To clarify that statement in more detail for our business leaders; holding the line on business ethics has nothing to do with the thin white path of cocaine on your desk. It appears that this is the only line a corporate CEO has paid attention to over the last eight years. Until recently, that statement always earns me a few smirks from the all knowing people at parties. They are afraid now which allows me to tell stories about Caribbean pirates. The buccaneers were a group of drunken syphilitic cutthroats, but they had rules. The pirates recognized the need for some order within their organization. Obviously, the bankers failed to see the need for a code. As with all drunken orgies there was failure to practice common sense ethics.
And why should they, after all it wasn’t their 401Ks that they were squandering.
Our government regulators ignored enforcing the laws already on the books. It brings up the question of why our government fell asleep as they have done so many times in the pass. The answer is quite clear when you look at the campaign staffs of both Presidential candidates. They are riddled with the lobbyists working for the corporations that have placed this staggering debt on the American taxpayers and their children.
Of course maybe I am wrong about our business leaders and politicians. It’s possible these people are true visionaries. They know this country is rapidly turning into a third world garbage dump. Perhaps this is their opportune time to cash in and buy that trophy home in France or a castle in Germany and let Mexico takeover.

As I see it the evidence is very strong against the fools in Washington. Specifically the Dems:

Republican Senate Bill to end old Fannie/Freddie oversight and create new, stronger oversight. NO Democrat sponsorship or votes for approval:

It was the Democrats who started this mess. Even Bill Clinton admits the Democrats were blocking any legislature to tighten oversight of Freddie/Fannie:

Eight years of President Bush and they still blame the Dems ---incredible. Bush had no problems reversing and changing the direction of many Clinton policies and 90's laws --- why didn't he change this? Blaming Dems, this is just silly partisanship --- no wonder our country is in trouble when we can't get down to fact-based problem solving and just throw $800 billion at the problem to the people who created it (bankers) or just stood by doing nothing (Bush &Co.)!

diggtbks mentions that the Democrats started the fire. He omits who poured gasoline on it.

In point of fact, the bill never got out of the Republican controlled committee. There is no record of how the committee voted, or if they did vote. But diggtks was never one to let the truth interfere with his spouting. It's a shame that diggtks didn't have time to read the government website that he cited.

Maybe you should go to the library and check out a book on how our government works. Bush has so much power he can reverse laws? WOW. He can also write his own laws too right??
grandpaw be a man and look at your Dem brethren, they lit the fire, poured gas on it and denied the place was burning down. Look at the YouTube videos.
The Bill never got out of committee because the vote was split along party lines. Bottom line NO Dems helped sponsor this Bill nor help vote it out of committee.
Again the Dems gave the finger to the people.
