The Denver Scholastic Chess Series kicks off the chess season Oct. 18 at Colorado Community Church. Dates for the series: Oct. 18, Nov. 15, Dec. 6, Jan. 17, Feb. 7, March 21 and April 11.
The DSCS is complemented by the Colorado Springs Scholastic Chess Series, which starts Saturday.
Divisions for the DSCS are by grade: K-3 Unrated, 4-6 Unrated, 7-12 Unrated, K-3 Rated, 4-6 Rated and 7-12 Rated.
The Unrated Divisions are appropriate for children with limited tournament experience in the beginning of their chess careers. After doing well in the Unrated Divisions, they can move up into the Rated Divisions, where they are required to join the U.S. Chess Federation and vie with experienced players.
