Gov. Bill Ritter on Wednesday announced a drought and climate conference in Denver next week.
Ritter will host the event sponsored by the Colorado Water Conservation Board and the Governor's Conference on Managing Drought and Climate Risk Oct. 8-10 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
"Colorado is fortunate to enjoy abundant natural resources, and as a headwater state in a semi-arid environment we constantly face critical water- resource challenges," Ritter said in a statement. "The issues of drought and climate risk are becoming increasingly important. It is imperative that we develop a thorough scientific understanding of climate risk and its potential effects and impacts."
Ritter said the conference will help water providers and planners to prepare for the effects of drought.
Colorado's state drought plan also will be covered at the conference. Ritter will give the opening remarks at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 8.
