This old house

When a house is razed, what can be salvaged? Jodi Murphy, founder and president of Chicago-based Murco Recycling Enterprises, knows and Planet Green cameras follow her in a new, 13-part series. Total Wrecklamation, which airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m., features old and new, large and small homes.

Murphy quests to save valuable items and usable materials. She resells bathtubs, chandeliers, floorboards . . . even shrubs at auctions, saving money, materials and landfill space.

Small crowd

52.4 million viewers tuned in to last Friday's presidential debate, 10 million fewer than saw the first debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry in 2004. Nielsen Media Research counted numbers from 11 commercial networks that televised the event from the University of Mississippi. Audiences of PBS and C-SPAN were not counted.

The record - 80.6 million people - saw the Jimmy Carter-Ronald Reagan debate in 1980. When vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin square off tonight, their debate is expected to surpass the VP record of 56.7 million in 1984 (George Bush-Geraldine Ferraro).

Chatter

"How many times do you see classical music together with rock and hip-hop?"

Sharon Osbourne, judge on the NBC show America's Got Talent, telling the Associated Press about her favorites among the show's five finalists, violin duo Nuttin' but Strings. Apparently she hasn't heard Denver's Flobots.

. . . And the world

When the nightly, half-hour Worldfocus debuts Monday (6:30 and 11:30) on KBDI-Channel 12, Colorado viewers will gain a broader perspective on international issues. KBDI President Wick Rowland said Worldfocus and KBDI's third digital channel, MHz Worldview, will make the public access channel a primary source for international news in Colorado. Hosted by Martin Savidge, formerly of CBS and CNN, it replaces BBC World News. Contributors will include ITN (Great Britain), NHK (Japan), TV Globo (Brazil), SABC (South Africa) and Asia News International.
