Jay Cutler is grateful that Brian Griese blazed a trail through Denver before him.

It never is easy replacing a Hall of Fame quarterback. Griese learned this when he attempted, unsuccessfully, to make Broncos fans forget about John Elway. Cutler’s play through the first four games is stirring hope he can return Denver to the Super Bowl, but the third-year quarterback is grateful he did not have to replace Elway immediately after his retirement, as Griese did.

“If you’ve got John Elway or Brett Favre . . . it’s tough. Expectations are so high,” Culter said. “It’s a lose-lose. If you win a game and you didn’t do it like John did or you didn’t do it like Brett did, you’re still going to get it. It’s tough. Unless you go right in there and win a Super Bowl and make them forget about the last guy, it’s going to be a difficult job.”

What a pointless story. I don't think we need to hear this from Cutler or anyone, it goes without saying. I will say Griese sure took his lumps here in Denver and was Shanny's lil scapegoat. I hope he performs well and proves Shanny wrong this sunday. Of course after his 3 pick week last sunday, I would not count on it.

Yea, but if you get a bazillion dollars to play a fun game like football instead of wasting time in some dumb office sharpening pencils and making copies of stuff, it's not so bad. I would follow John Elwat too, even if everybody in Denver threw grapes at me...

You hope he plays well and proves Shanny wrong? First off, why are you pulling for a player on another team? Second, how can he prove Shanny wrong? Shanny has already been proven right. What exactly has Griese done since Denver? Become a journeyman. Maybe he will land on the right team, and maybe even be a Dilfer, but that is about the extent of his chances. He was never going to be great. I liked him, but he is gone for a reason. And I certainly do not want him to have a good game Sunday.

I don't think was Jay said was pointless. I would image those comments were just pulled out of the air. I would guess Jay was asked a question and he answered it.

OPETH72, I have to agree with you on that one. But he's entitled to his opinion, no matter how whacked we think it is.
TXBRONC, I agree with that theory as well. I mean, he is asked a question. He answers it. Of course, if a writer is going to write an article, for Gods sake, write an ARTICLE, not a "short story in 100 words or less". Sheesh.
Rutabaga, yeah, pay us the right amount of money and we can just about handle ANY amount of stress, unless, of course, you're Ryan Leaf.
