New England quarterback Matt Cassel had plenty to smile about as he walked off the field after the Patriots' 48-28 win over Miami on Sunday. He was coming off his second straight 400-yards-plus passing day.
HEROES
Matt Cassel, QB, Patriots: Tom who??? Cassel surpassed 400 passing yards (415 to be exact) for the second straight week, adding four scores, including one on the ground.
Drew Brees, QB, Saints: Continued his quest to top Marino’s best, throwing for 323 yards and four scores on Monday night.
Chad Pennington, QB, Dolphins: Passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns and ran one into the end zone for good measure.
Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys: Blitzed the 49ers with 341 yards and three touchdowns. I guess his pinkie is OK now.
Tyler Thigpen, QB, Chiefs: Tossed three more touchdowns while passing for 240 yards, and added 29 as a rusher.
Matt Forte, RB, Bears: Had his best day as a pro, racing for 132 yards and two trips to the end zone.
Pierre Thomas, RB, Saints: Once again showed what he can do when given the chance, running for 87 yards and two scores, and adding three catches for 34 yards.
Michael Turner, RB, Falcons: Ran for 117 yards and scored four, count ‘em four, times.
Leon Washington, RB, Jets: Scored twice and ran for 82 yards in a supporting role.
Randy Moss, WR, Patriots: Looked like the Randy of ’07, reeling in eight passes for 125 yards and a touchdown trifecta.
Terrell Owens, WR, Cowboys: Only scored once, but his seven catches produced 213 yards and a happy camper (at least till Thanksgiving).
Lance Moore, WR, Saints: Reeled in five passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Isaac Bruce, WR, 49ers: Caught eight passes for 125 yards and a score.
Steve Smith, WR, Panthers: His four receptions went for 168 yards, though he failed to score.
Tony Gonzalez, TE, Chiefs: Hauled in 10 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.
GOATS
Donovan McNabb, QB, Eagles: His 59-yard, two-interception performance was so bad, he actually got benched for Kevin Kolb.
Brady Quinn, QB, Browns: The young gun got benched too, after tossing two picks and amassing just 94 passing yards against the lowly Texans.
Jay Cutler, QB, Broncos: His owners were expecting better than 204 yards and an interception against Oakland.
Frank Gore, RB, 49ers: Ran for 26 measly yards against a suspect Dallas defense.
Willie Parker, RB, Steelers: Ground out just 37 yards against the Bengals before tweaking his knee (again).
Willis McGahee, RB, Ravens: Continued his “now you see him, now you don’t” season by rushing seven times for – drumroll, please -- 8 yards.
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers: A week after rumbling for 130 yards and a score, managed just 15 yards on five carries.
Antonio Pittman, RB, Rams: We know the Bears are tough, but 8 yards on nine carries and just 11 receiving yards?
LenDale White, RB, Titans: Lost a yard on his only carry, then lost it in the locker room.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Bengals: Four catches netted just 20 yards.
Hines Ward, WR, Steelers: Managed just one 37-yard catch.
Kevin Curtis, WR, Eagles: His two receptions were worth only 12 yards.
Donnie Avery, WR, Rams: Just 14 yards for the rookie.
Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos: This rookie also joined the 14-yard club.
Plaxico Burress, WR, Giants: Blanked and watched most of the game from the sidelines.
Bernard Berrian, WR, Vikings: Ran for more yards (22) than he had receiving (six).
Deion Branch, WR, Seahawks: So much for being Matt Hasselbeck’s leading target. His 11-yard outing left much to be desired.
Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Browns: Suffered along with his quarterbacks, with one 11-yard catch on the day.
Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys: Caught one 11-yard pass before a monster hit knocked him out of the ring.
SURPRISES
Trent Edwards, QB, Bills: After looking awful against the Browns last Monday night, scored twice by land and twice by air, passed for 273 yards and ran for 38 more.
