The Broncos waived safety Roderick Rogers Tuesday clearing the roster spot needed to sign veteran fullback Andrew Pinnock.
As of the close of the business day at the league offices in New York the Broncos had not reported the signing Tuesday afternoon, but Pinnock was scheduled to receive a physical to check his surgically repaired knee. It was the second physical the Broncos had given Pinnock in recent weeks and they also worked him out earlier this month.
He had microfracture surgery in February and was released by the San Diego Chargers at the end of training camp. Rogers had made his first career start in Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Raiders. Monday Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Rogers, who was the third player in the last five games to start at free safety, "did not play as good as I hoped he would.''
Shanahan said Monday he was still looking for someone to fill his job description at the position.
"Just a difference maker, a difference maker at the safety position. Support the run, also cover the pass. Those guys are hard to find. We'll keep on giving people opportunities until one of them steps up and takes advantage.''
Shanahan said Marlon McCree, who will likely be the starter when he's ready to play, is still a couple weeks away from returning from his left ankle injury. He has not practiced since suffering the injury late in the Nov. 2 loss to the Dolphins.

I am a GHF fans but this one has me confused. Why do the Broncos need a fullback? I understand that Rodgers did not fullfil expectations at safety but still was good on ST. He was not even considered to go back to PS, humm.
Shanahan, try Karl Paymah at safety. Has size and speed for position. And you have tried everyone else. I really believe that you will also give Josh Barrett his chance.

I think the reason for picking up another fullback is to avoid wearing out Larsen and having another body to fill in that position in a pinch. You never know maybe the coach thinks Pinnock can play another position than fullback. Ya never know.
This draft we will see wholesale "D" picks. Maybe a round 2 or 3 RB but mostly "D", "D", and some more "D."

If Paymah plays safety, who plays the third CB in nickel? Jack Williams?

Spencer Larsen is the best middle linebacker on the team, and Shanahan should have seen this in training camp. Signing a fullback will allow Spencer to focus on playing defense.

If Paymah plays safety, the third cornerback would be Bell, after Bailey comes back.

Ok guys here is another bloggers loss reason. The rookies are hitting the wall. That means both tackles (Harris did not play last year), Royal, and the defense.
I guess you would have to say that they have not learned how to win. Makes sense. Play good to start, loss to KC, beat some tough NFC teams, then Miami come to town, very good on the road, then Oakland.
Five games to finish the season and a 9-7 record.

The Broncos need a fullback because Spenser Larsen might be playing linebacker a lot more.
