Listen to talk about the powers that be among NFL division leaders, and there’s nary a peep about the Broncos.
Know what? Nobody gives much credence to first place in the AFC West right now — especially when that team ranks No. 27 in points allowed (27 per game) and No. 29 out of the league’s 32 teams in yards allowed (387 per game) on defense.
Even though the Broncos hold a two-game lead over second- place San Diego, the prevailing notion is that the Chargers will get their stuff together, make a run and seize the lead from Denver.
Well, while the Chargers are in stuff-gathering mode, Denver is starting to regain some rhythm on offense — with a defense that is making strides to stop the run.
Keeping in mind that these are eco-friendly times, Sunday’s Broncos-Raiders matchup, on paper, is a mismatch — Denver (6-4) against an Oakland franchise that has gone 21-69 since 2003.
