Jackee Sealy, left, holds her 1-week-old son, Carter Sealy, while her other son, Cooper Jacob Sealy, 2, plays at the Sealy home in Broomfield on Monday.

It's more than two weeks since Election Day, and so far no Colorado parents seem to have named their newborns either Barack or Obama.

Roger Sealy pretended he did. The Broomfield man sent notices to several newspapers saying his new son was named Carter Barack Obama Sealy.

Sealy got some ink and did a few interviews, enhancing the story by saying he'd named his other two kids Brooke Trout Sealy and Cooper John Elway Sealy.

But then his mother-in-law busted him, telling the Boulder Daily Camera it was a joke.

Mom Jackee dug out birth certificates Wednesday and showed a Daily Camera reporter that the children's real names are Brooke Emma Sealy and Cooper Jacob Sealy.

The baby's birth certificate hasn't come back yet, but she said his real name is Carter Thomas Sealy.

She said the birth notice to the newspapers was her spouse's idea of a joke.

"I'm so sorry," she said. "My husband's an idiot."

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment keeps a list of baby names - and sends it to the media once a year for articles about trends in popular baby names.

So far, no Barack or Obama has come into the state database, said Kirk Bol, who works in the Department's Vital Statistics section.

State health officials note, however, that they only keep track of first names, so a middle name wouldn't show up on the rolls.

Newsweek magazine spoke to demographers who are expecting a baby boomlet in August 2009 - brought on by the enthusiasm of couples over the election of a new president.

And a rash of Baracks and Obamas are always possible then.

Kind of sums up this whole story, and the fact that it is a front page head line... No?

And the fact there are SO MANY comments on it... most now going toward the issue about our President Elect's birth certificate, another non issue and non story...
Maybe you can't fool all the people all the time - but you sure can fool the fools - with foolish stuff a lot of the time!

Seriously, who would name their child Barack in the first place? It sounds like a belch. I think it's like the song "A Boy Named Sue": the father gave the kid a horrible name deliberately, because he wanted the boy to grow up tough and strong and able to outwit the other kids, and the father knew he wouldn't be around to teach his son how to defend himself.

Well, it's about as intelligent as the rest of the comments on this thread ;-)

Shaggy, get over it. My husband doens't have the original copy of his birth certificate. He lost it in the process of moving many times as a military brat. Not only that, but the hospital where he gave birth also does not have a way to make an "original" version since record keeping many decades ago is not the same as it is today. Their offices have moved, even on a MILITARY base, and he had a really hard time getting a copy he could use, and it probably isn't one that holds up to YOUR standards, but seemed good enough for him to get a passport, marriage license, etc.

And what is your big stink about his college records? He went to college. What else do you need to know? Is it your business what classes he took in college? He obviously got good grades to regarded so highly at Harvard.

And baptism? Is that any of your business at all? Is that a requirement for becoming president? Since when did a christian religious ceremony have anything to do with becoming president?
Get a life Shaggy, and face the fact that he IS our president, and you can't change that.

Shaggy, Obamas' mom was an American citizen all her life, right? What does the department of naturalization say about the citizenship of children born to American moms when they are out of the country? She wasn't, but what would happen to a child born to an American citizen, and a citizen of the British Empire, as his father was, if the kid is born in Kenya?

I'm reminded that, when my children were young, every other kid was named Ryan or Madison, and that in a few years a bunch of Ryans and Madisons will be running the country.

And whatever happened to all those people whose flower children parents named them Miracles and Stardust? Is there a Dr. Moonbeam Smith in the house?

Not to mention the kid saddled with the moniker "Sir Mario," probably sentencing him to daily butt-kickings all through junior high school that may have contributed to his destiny as a murderer.

Finally, my favorite Doonesbury strip of all time: Duke, then working for Rolling Stone, is interviewing Cher and asks why she named her child Chastity. Cher responds that Frank Zappa had named his child Moon Unit and Grace Slick named hers China. Duke replies, "So, all the good names were taken," and Cher agrees.
