Cowboys grounded

Wyoming's running game will present a challenge for the Colorado State defense.

The Cowboys' Devin Moore leads the Mountain West Conference and is 15th in Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) in rushing, averaging 111.2 yards a game. He also ranks first in the conference and sixth in FBS with 172.8 all-purpose yards a game.

"He's got that breakaway speed, he's very difficult to tackle, he's a strong runner, he really spins in the hole and he's got great vision and he's got that burst to get through the hole," Rams defensive coordinator Larry Kerr said. "He's scary."

Wyoming's Wynel Seldon is averaging 48.2 yards.

"He is a load, a very tough runner," Kerr said. "They've got a great 1-2 punch there.

"Just like last week, if we can get them into a throwing game, it could be to our advantage just as long as we don't give up the big play. That's going to be the big challenge. If we can keep the ball in front of us and not allow a big run or pass, make them earn everything, that's what we're striving to do."

Wyoming defense solid

CSU coach Steve Fairchild has been searching for flaws in the Wyoming defense but hasn't found many.

"I don't see any holes in them (on defense) on a personnel standpoint," he said. "They do a nice job of pressuring the passer, they are well- coached, they have a nice scheme and they bounce in and out of the three- and four-man front like Air Force does.

"They've got a couple talented guys in the secondary. They are playing well. They run to the ball well, they tackle well, nobody is really moving the ball consistently on them, so we'll have our work cut out for us."

554consecutive touches for CSU's Gartrell Johnson without losing a fumble.
