Two 19-year-olds, including the son of a Denver police officer, have been arrested in the June shooting of a Douglas County sheriff's deputy.

The pair are suspects in a June 28 burglary and auto theft that ended with one or both of the suspects shooting at deputies, hitting one in the arm, said Cocha Heyden, spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

Brandin Kreuzer, 19, of Sedalia, and Taylor Moudy, 19, of Castle Rock, were being held in the Douglas County Jail.

Kreuzer is the son of veteran Denver police officer Kevin Kreuzer.

"It's not going to help him right now," said Kevin Kreuzer, who confirmed his occupation and that the suspect is his son.

"I'm very distraught over this, over my son being involved in something like this. I don't know what to believe anymore."

Kevin Kreuzer said that his son was arrested at their home Tuesday and he hasn't been able to talk to him since.

"I'm the father - I wish I did know, but no one has told me anything, I'm not being told anything," he said.

He said he didn't want to talk about his son until he learns more.

"I don't know what to say," he said. "I can't believe this is happening. I don't know what has happened yet, and I'm waiting to hear the whole story."

Douglas County Sheriff David Weaver said he believes that the two suspects also are responsible for a June 11 armed robbery at the Circle K Convenience Store in Castle Rock and other burglaries and car thefts starting in May.

Weaver and Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane will discuss the case at a news conference today at the Justice Center in Castle Rock.

Its sometimes pretty hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic. You cannot see their face or hear their tone. Maybe if they simply put "sarcasim intended", it would be a little more obvious. Or maybe it wasn't scarcasim at all?

Doesn't matter where they're from, they're lucky to be alive. Not too many people who shoot at the police get to walk around after doing so.

Some may see the shooting of the officer in the arm as a positive thing because these two will be removed from the streets for a longer amount of time, thus reducing the risk of a future officer death.

This is a shame. I know both of these boys very well... Anybody who knows them would be able to testify that they never could've seen this coming. Taylor is a fine boy, he was in some of my AP classes and was always very smart. He always said he was going to go into the navy. He wants (wanted) to be a pilot. Brandin lives just down the street from me. We've hung out a few times and he was always very fun and friendly. I've never seen him be overtly mean to anybody... Very nice guy. His parents are great people, too. His mother takes very good care of her horses, and I see her riding them up and down my road on nice days. His father is a police officer, coincidentally enough.

I would urge everyone who reads this article to not jump to conclusions about these boys. Yes, it is apalling what they have done, but don't assume that they've always been this way. Oh, and no. Neither of them are illegals. They are good, solid, American boys. Turn it around a bit, and what does that tell you about society these days?

Personally I don't believe you all should be having so much fun. After reading your comments I was extremely disappointed in the society in which I live. I personally know one of the accused. Yes they're white Americans. Actually the suspect I know was going to join the marines. He was one of the nicest and most dedicated kids I knew. I shared classes with him and a 4-H career with him. Anyone who knows him would be as shocked as I to hear this news. It is totally out of character. I feel people should think before they say something so unnecessary.

It's called desensitization. I sat with both Brandin and Taylor one night while they, my brother, and a few other good ol' boys shot and killed eachother numerous times on, you guessed it, Halo. When one would kill the other, they'd laugh and high-five eachother in their respective teams, and it seemed innocent enough at the time... Put that with all the other media-depicted violence on the market, and you've got one hell of a problem for young men with little positive influence and too much time with electronics.

I've played paintball with them several times. They used to come to my property in the summers, because we've got big trees and dense scruboak. There's something exhilarating to young men about pointing and shooting eachother with weapons, harmless paintballs or not. This adds to the desensitization of violence- once a person has engaged in a similar activity, they are much more likely to engage in an activity of the same sort.

Taylor wanted to be a marine. This is to say that he idolized the good men of our country whose job it is to bear arms. Whether or not the image is a positive one, the motif of weaponry and violence is ever-present.

Brandin's father is a well-respected Denver police officer, who only 4 years ago was shot in the arm by a man. Brandin's desensitisation is doubled by his exposure to the accounts of his father's experience in the field.

This is just my insight and you are certainly free to reject anything I've said.

The truth is, there may never be an understanding of why these young men chose this path. Perhaps only a psychiatrist can sort it out. It's just such a waste of opportunity and promise, and to piss it all away, for what? To pretend to be bada$$es in the 'burbs? In any event, I believe they deserve the max, including attempted murder on the police officer.

Chikki, thanks for your input. While I don't buy the video-game-as-desensitizing-agent excuse, it's very interesting to read your perspective after reading the story. Unlike the glory-hounds who often come on the forums and claim to know someone from a story, it sounds like you truly do know these two. Are you their age? I only ask because you are pretty well-spoken for a teenager. Regardless, it sounds like these two are going to need all the support their friends and family can provide.

Why is it, the "I never saw it coming, they were sooo nice" crew comes out of the woodwork everytime some psycho gets arrested?

I'll tell you why, psychos are generally manipulative people who everyone thinks is "such a nice person" right up until their skeletons come out of the closet.

Now, years after Columbine, we are still facing the underlying question. How can kids with most of societies advantages still turn to violence and crime? Some will blame society, some will blame the parents, some video games, some basic DNA. The scary part is that in many cases we do not and perhaps cannot ever trace some easy or direct cause. People who do monstrous things usually do not look like monsters.

BS Excuses are like A**holes everyone has one. When I was a kid we didn't have video games but we had toy cap guns and bows and arrows and wooden swords and... We played all day and into the night during the summer and "killed each other thousands of times. All of us KNEW it was PRETEND!

Grow up and take responsibility for your actions! If these two did this they are going to be held responsible, tough lesson, should've learned it sooner and less painfully. Hopefully their friends will witness this and do a little growing up. Not make such stupid excuses.
