He Said It

"At some point, a team does get old. People have been saying it for three or four years. At some point, they'll be correct. And perhaps someday the world will end and certainly people will be correct then, too."

Gregg Popovich, Spurs coach, on his aging team.

Numbers Game

23 home games played last season when San Antonio, at 19-4, suffered its fourth loss at the AT&T Center. The Spurs got there in six games this season, falling to 2-4 at home as a result of Wednesday's 91-81 loss to Denver.

Nuggets quick links

It has been a long wait for Nuggets rookie swingman Sonny Weems. But he says he's on the verge of playing.

"I can do a lot of running and go through some of practice," said Weems, out since the start of training camp, first after sports hernia surgery then because of a groin strain. "Once I'm able to get through a full practice without any pain, I'll be ready to play. . . . (A full practice) might be possible next week."

Nuggets coach George Karl has talked about sending Weems to the NBA Development League's Colorado 14ers when he's healthy.

Weems said he hasn't heard anything but added, "Whatever coach wants, for me to go there, then I'll do it."

NO VINO

Often, before facing San Antonio, Karl gets a bottle of wine from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, owner of Oregon winery Rock & Hammer.

"I haven't found a bottle of wine yet," Karl said before the game.

Could it because the Spurs entered a pedestrian 5-5?

"It might be bad year," Karl said. "The economy's down."

ETC.: Nuggets forward Renaldo Balkman played nine minutes after he left early in the fourth quarter Tuesday because he aggravated his sprained right ankle against Milwaukee. . . . A night after it appeared Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza had broken out of a slump with 25 points, he went scoreless on 0-of-3 shooting. . . . The Spurs shot only 2-of-17 on three-pointers.
