Numbers Game

4 points is the average margin of victory for New Mexico, which has won four of the past five games against CSU.

He Said It

"A stupid mistake. I should have gotten the play off sooner."

Rams quarterback Billy Farris, on the delay-of-game penalty late in the first half that forced the Rams to settle for a field goal.

— First-year coach Steve Fairchild was upbeat despite a 38-17 loss to Air Force on Saturday at Falcon Stadium.

"The last three weeks have been good to us," Fairchild said. "Football is a game of emotion, and I like the look of confidence in our eyes. It's a process. Nobody said we were going to conquer the world the first year."

CSU is 4-6 and could become bowl eligible by winning Saturday at home against New Mexico and against Wyoming on Nov. 22 in Laramie.

"We'll go back to work now," Fairchild said. "I like the way our team is progressing. I really think we have a couple good weeks. Let's go build on that, and I think we can end the season with a good taste in our mouth."
