Palin says all she ever asked for was a Diet Dr Pepper

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin acknowledges the crowd during an election night rally in Phoenix.

— Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called her critics cowards and jerks Friday for deriding her anonymously and insisted she never asked for the expensive wardrobe purchased for her use on the presidential campaign.

"I never asked for anything more than a Diet Dr Pepper once in a while," Palin said as she returned to the governor's office from her two-month odyssey as the GOP vice presidential nominee. She said the Republican National Committee paid for the tens of thousands of dollars in designer clothes and accessories.

"Those are the RNC's clothes. They're not my clothes. I never forced anybody to buy anything," she said.

Republican Party lawyers are still trying to determine exactly what clothing was purchased for Palin at such high-end stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, what was returned and what has become of the rest.

She particularly lashed out at the anonymous Republican campaign sources cited in a Fox News report who said she did not know Africa was a continent, not a country, and could not name the three countries in the North American Free Trade Agreement — Canada, the United States and Mexico.

"I consider it cowardly" that they did not allow their names to be used, she said.

Palin said those allegations aren't true. She recalled discussing Africa and NAFTA with aides who prepared her for the vice presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden.

"If there are allegations based on questions or comments that I made in debate prep about NAFTA, and about the continent vs. the country when we talk about Africa there, then those were taken out of context," she said. "That's cruel, It's mean-spirited. It's immature. It's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it, taking things out of context and then tried to spread something on national news. It's not fair, and it's not right." Palin also said she would not call on Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, to resign, although last month, before his re-election bid, she said he should "step aside" and "play a very statesmanlike role in this now." Stevens, 84, was found guilty on seven counts of trying to hide more than $250,000 in free home renovations and other gifts that he received from a wealthy oil contractor.

Three days after the election, Stevens, the longest serving Republican in Senate history, is about 3,500 votes ahead of Democratic challenger Mark Begich with thousands of absentee ballots to be counted in the next two weeks.

Said Palin on Friday: "The Alaska voters have spoken and me not being a dictator, won't be telling anyone what to do." When asked if she would call on him to resign, Palin said: "Not after the will of the people has been made manifest via that vote." Meanwhile, RNC lawyers are discussing with Palin whether what's left of the clothing and accessories purchased for her on the campaign trail will go to charity, back to stores or be paid for by Palin, a McCain-Palin campaign official said Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the campaign hadn't authorized comment.

The sorting should be completed in the next four or five days, the campaign official said, declining to say whether the RNC was sending anyone to Alaska to help take inventory.

The RNC spent at least $150,000 on designer clothing, accessories and beauty services for Palin after she became John McCain's running mate in September. The spending included $75,062 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis; $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue; $9,447 at Macy's; and $789 at the luxury retailer Barneys New York.

Some of the purchases were for Palin family members, such as $4,902 spent at upscale men's clothier Atelier and $92 at Pacifier, a Minneapolis baby boutique.

The McCain-Palin campaign said about a third of the clothing was returned immediately because it was the wrong size, or for other reasons. However, other purchases were apparently made after that, the campaign official said.

The spending drew a complaint against Palin and the RNC by a Washington government watchdog group. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission accusing Palin and the GOP of violating a federal ban on the use of campaign funds for personal expenses such as clothing.

The RNC didn't respond to repeated requests by The Associated Press for comment Friday.

It's routine for candidates to get professional hair and makeup services at campaign expense before they go on camera, but Palin's shopping spree at GOP donors' expense is unusual. It contrasted with the down-to-earth "hockey mom" image that Palin sought to craft and gave the campaign unwanted publicity in the form of newspaper headlines, Internet chatter and comedians' jokes.

FEC spokesman Bob Biersack declined to comment on the spending beyond confirming that the commission has received CREW's complaint.

Palin is yesterday's news. She wasn't deserving to be on the stage she found herself on, but she was needed as a prop to get McCain's ratings back up - and it worked wonders. Not long afterward she was found out to be a dolt. (is that too old school?) She was not intelligent, but she could speak. She is a chameleon and very good at becoming something she isn't.

A liar... sure, but as someone stated earlier, all politicians lie. I however find it odd about what she does lie about. She was a proponent for hate among her "loyalists" and I was appalled just listening to what she would insinuate. I would be ashamed to be associated with anyone of that ilk, but that is just my opinion and I am very solid on that.

If she is the "face of the Republican Party", then the Republicans are in for some hard times.

It's true I didn't vote for McCain because she was on the ticket. Until McCain picked her I was truly "on-the-fence". The reason was experience - she simply didn't have it and didn't seem to have the tools to learn on the job. Case in point: It took her 5 colleges to gain a degree from a no-name institution. Two years ago she was mayor of a town the size of an apartment building in New York. For these reasons and others she was wrong for the job - especially considering McCain would have been the oldest 1st term President (i.e. he might have died in office - God save us all if that happened).

In any case, Sarah can now return to Alaska in earn all our respect by becoming the leader so many of us hoped she would be. Maybe she'll be back, maybe not, but next time I know she'll know the difference between Macro & Micro economics.

And Chill, all of the attacks are coming from WITHIN the RNC and the McCain campaign, and Fox News, not the "liberal media", so get your facts straight! It's not my fault I believed them. Obama promised not to raise taxes on the middle class, and to increase government size and influence. Where will the money come from? He is just going to raise taxes on the rich and on businesses/corporations. The rich will not pay more, they have lawyers and accountants to protect their money unlike the middle class. If business cannot make the same profit after taxes, the increase is passed on. If they connot pass it on, then they cut expenses, which usually means to cut jobs or pay.

What’s great is to see and hear just what the media wants to report again. How many stories out there that has actual people, places and a named source about the “Mutt” that we will never read or hear about. Even after the WIN for the “Mutt” we are seeing and reading NONE of the undercover brother stories. I do not have a problem with the published stories but can you hook us up with all of them!

Once again, Palin's critics are conveniently leaving out facts. Like how much was spent on Hillary Clinton's wardrobe, Obama and Biden's suits? Guaranteed, it's more than you and I spend. So, this is part of our pathetic political process, whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, and we taxpayers can't do much about it. She didn't ask for any of it, and if it was excessive blame the process, because both parties are the problem. When will people stop picking on Palin? Probably never, because the snooty Ivy League types can't stand the thought of a genuine, down-to-earth, intelligent woman from a Western school emerging as a major force.

Larry Sinclair Files Federal Suit against Obama Robert Novak Hinted at Sinclair’s Allegations in October Larry Sinclair has filed a federal suit against Barack Obama and others for harassment since the gay man released his video on YouTube alleging that the Senator from Illinois and Sinclair shared gay sex and cocaine in the back of a limo in Gurnee, IL in 1999.

"But don’t expect to see anything in the MSM. That would mean that they would have to explain why the suit was filed. That would mean that they would have to lift their “black out” of the Sinclair story. The Larry Sinclair story about Barack Obama continues to get the silent treatment from the MSM. To us, that is the real story of the affair. We watched as the MSM judiciously ignored hard cold facts collected in the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter Love Child story by the National Enquirer. It appears that Obama will get the same courtesy. Now this morning, Big Head DC claims that YouTube, which is owned by Google, has attempted to suppress the popularity of Larry Sinclair’s video allegations about Obama. As reported in DBKP’s “Obama: Larry Sinclair Claims Gay Sex, Drugs in 1999 with Barack“, Sinclair says in the videos that he used cocaine with Sen. Barack Obama and performed a sex act on him in 1999. What scandal did the MSM press have no problem getting enthusiastic about last fall”?

It's not picking on her if it's the facts. It's called taking responsibility for your behavior. It's called being humble enough to admit your shortcomings. It's called being smart enough to recognize why some people might be offended by your words and your actions. It's called living the Christian life that you claim to hold so dear.

I laugh at the men on this board who think that women are "eating their own." I'm an intelligent 54 year old woman and it makes me cringe to see such a low-life running for public office. It's been a long tough fight for women of my generation to earn the right to be taken seriously for any public office. A female candidate like Palin who is so ill-prepared for the Presidency does more harm than good for our gender.

It was McCain's biggest mistake and act of great arrogance to believe that he could throw any woman out there and it would garner more female votes. I like to think that we have more discernment than that.

As long as Palin and the Republican party believe the "problem" lies outside of themselves, they will fail. For example, Palin still believes her problem is the media. If only the media would change, then she thinks she will succeed. The problem is not the media - it will always be there. The problem is Palin's reaction to the media.

Interestingly, Palin, in her very first speech to the US, at the RNC, was already griping about the liberal media! That was the FIRST time we heard from her. Prior to that the media (and the US people) knew nothing about her, and the entire US was fairly trying to find out about this person who we knew nothing about, but would be forced to vote for or against in only a few months time.

Palin and the Republican party need to take a good hard look within themselves for the "problem" and the solution. The American people have spoken loudly. They've rejected the polarizing, partisan rhetoric of Palin and the Republican party of the past decade.

Speak, if this is the thinking of those in charge of the RNC, then the GOP is best left dead. Either you look at the failures within your party, and your party takes responsiblity and accountability for your own failing, instead of inventing conspiracies, scapegoats, etc... or your party deserves to die an ingnomious death. Please, Dem agents within the GOP, or Republicans hiding their true party affiliations, you sound so much like the company who labels a whistleblower a "disgruntled employee" rather than fixing the problem! Are you sharing tin foil hats with ghoax? I make you a promise, if Obama fails or goes in a really bad direction that does not seem in the best interest of the middle class of this country (ie a moderate line, not a liberal or conservative line!), I will be the first to denounce him, because I am an unaffiliated voter. I liked his message, his optimism, his frankness about our challenges, and I also liked the fact that he didn't try resorting to smear tactics to the level of the McCain campaign (in particular Palin!). Now, I know I'm asking for the heavens to align here, but can any of you or those on here who seem to share your theories and lack of accountability admit that the McCain campaign ran a poor campaign and that Palin was a horrible choice, or are all of the moderate Republicans who jumped ship because they were horrified by her as a pick for VP just Dems hiding their true affiliations?

Why haven’t they admitted the truth before? Why hasn’t the socialist press vetted socialist Obama after 2 years? Can it be the socialist press doesn’t want to know the answers to very important questions about socialist Obama? Here is the part of the interview that pertained to Barack Obama. The interview in it's entirety can be found here :
    http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2008...

CHARLIE ROSE: I don't know what Barack Obama's worldview is.

TOM BROKAW: No, I don't, either.

CHARLIE ROSE: I don't know how he really sees where China is.

TOM BROKAW: We don't know a lot about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking about foreign policy.

CHARLIE ROSE: I don't really know. And do we know anything about the people who are advising him?

TOM BROKAW: Yeah, it's an interesting question.

CHARLIE ROSE: He is principally known through his autobiography and through very inspirational speeches.

TOM BROKAW: Two of them! I don't know what books he's read.

CHARLIE ROSE: What do we know about the heroes of Barack Obama?

TOM BROKAW: There's a lot about him we don't know.

"Let me help you with socialist Barack Hussein Obama’s heroes. Try using the internet since the socialist press won’t vet socialist Obama. We at SpeakNowAmerica.org and many others have pointed out socialist Obama’s friends, associates, and heroes. Here is a partial list for you. Communist Frank Davis, America hater Rev. Jeremiah Wright, American terrorist, anarchist / Marxist Bill Ayers, convicted felon Tony Rezko, Palestinian lover, Israeli hater Rashid Khaldi. Charlie Rose, Tom Brokaw do you see any trend here? "

Well that's an a good question, but it's safe to say she didn't feel the need to shop at Neiman-Marcus.

Hilary is a veteran of national politics. She did the smart thing by not making her clothes, hairdo or glasses (or lack of them) an issue. She wears pretty much the same style of clothing --- a pant suit. You can pretty much get by with 5 or 6 good suits, maybe 10 even she's traveling a lot. And you don't have to go to Neiman Marcus and pay $5000 for a decent suit.

It is known that she had a stylist do her hair every day in the same style because she never wanted her hair to be an issue.

See, Hilary never wanted her campaign to be about her looks. She wanted to be looked upon as a serious candidate for the Presidency. Can't say the same thing about Palin.
