A busload of suspected illegal immigrants are unloaded at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement holding facility in Aurora.

More than 6,000 illegal immigrants were deported from Colorado and Wyoming last fiscal year, a 7 percent increase that mirrors trends nationwide, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Thursday.

ICE officials credit heightened efforts targeting criminal and fugitive immigrants.

Nationwide, ICE deported more than 349,000 illegal immigrants during fiscal year 2008, which ended Sept. 30. That was a 20 percent increase over the prior year.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said he has seen a "pretty significant" increase in the number of inmates in his jail with ICE detainers. Currently, there are 173. During the summer, there were about 100.

The sheriff recently requested that some of his deputies undergo specialized training to enforce immigration laws.

"If they're in my jail, they've victimized my community, and they need to be dealt with accordingly," Robinson said. "They are criminals."

Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr said ICE and other law enforcement agencies are increasingly "under the gun" to find solutions to the immigration problem. That could account, at least in part, to the increase in deportations, he said.

But while ICE has been more aggressive, there's still a significant number of immigrants who aren't being processed. In Aurora, for example, ICE still responds only to about 25 percent of police referrals, Police Chief Dan Oates said.

"There is simply no capacity in the entire system to deal with the volume," Oates said.

Even though I'm a hard-core pro-sovereignty, anti-illegal immigration advocate, I too voted for Obama? This next session of Congress will see American taxpayers, fighting the looming battle to stop them from enacting Comprehensive Immigration reform. By any other name--BLANKET AMNESTY FOR 37 MILLION illegal aliens--that we support for parasite employers. If passed we will be forced to pay for their health care, not just emergency room visits? But my father told me to pick my wars. My reason was health care! That's why I voted for President elect Obama. With so many family members sick and health insurance companies playing games with their lives.

With a step-daughter after 7 years who died of Cancer, because the health care bureaucrat's, tried to prove she had a pre-existing condition so they could cut her off. For many it means bankruptcy? Because my ex-wife who was high risk obese, had gastro-bypass, but the insurance company refused to pay for the afterwards plastic surgery owing to the access flesh on her arms, upper torso. What a mess our health care system is in, when it's run by criminal enterprises whose manipulates the system with co-pays, deductibles and any manipulation to refuse you health care. Our non health care system is just for the wealthy who have the money. The special interest lobby and the well heeled demonize other countries health care systems, but at least it works for everybody--NOT JUST FOR THE FEW?

At least there are no more car horns, loud music, kids in diapers playing in the streets, Ford stepside trucks parked everywhere-usually illegally,.........I could go on......

The truly frustrating part is that with Obama in office, I am afraid this trend is going to reverse.

FACT: In the last 22 years, over 26 million illegals, have been apprehended, after crossing the border, into our United States.

THE PROBLEM IS: Less than 1, out of 4 illegals, are estimated to have been apprehended.

    Mind boggling, isn't it.

According to the U.S. Immigration Service another 6 million illegals in this country are visa overstays. That is, they got a visa legally in their home country, they came here to visit and then they never left.

In the last 22 years, there have been another 4 million anchor babies born to illegals. Anchor babies are now being born at a rate of 350-400 thousand per year in our United States. All at our expense!!

Then the ANCHOR BABIES qualify for welfare, food stamps, section-8 housing, all at our expense.

American Taxpayers are getting screwed, over, and over, and over, again!!!

Each illegal immigrant, on average, costs taxpayers $9,000 PER YEAR, over, and above, anything they might contribute in taxes!!!

I am happy to give Obama the benefit of the doubt until he's sworn in and sets the tone for illegal immigration policy. If he's against amnesty and upholds US sovereignty - then I'm behind him. If it's "catch and release" and "open borders" then there will be problems. The American People have sent a clear message that any immigration reform that includes amnesty is a no-go.

If that's really how you feel then no WHITE people belong here either. The only true native USA citizens are American Indians so how far back are you willing to take that? This just shows the total ignorance of all you that are so hateful toward these hardworking "illegal" immigrants.

I am a 1st generation citizen and have EARNED my federal career. My father owns his own business and was able to afford my college education outright and my brother is currently in a trade school. Both my parents and many in their generation are now naturalized citizens thanks to Regan's amnesty law back in the 80's. We do not dumb down socitety nor are we criminals and we have never requested much less received a handout from the government.

I hope there is amnesty for the rest of my family that has come here more recently. They are decent, hardworking people that deserve the best this country has to offer. All their children, which like me are BORN USA CITIZENS, have every right to be here and to fight for our family to enjoy our "legal" status.
