Former Denver Broncos player Billy Jenkins waived his preliminary hearing Monday on charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene, driving under the influence and failure to provide insurance in the death of a motor scooter driver in Aurora.
Jenkins was a starting defensive back for the Broncos in 2000 and 2001 after he was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Rams, where he played on the Rams' Super Bowl-winning team in 1999.
Jenkins, 34, was driving a rental car on Aug. 28 when he allegedly hit Tracy Gill, 51, who was riding a scooter near the intersection of Parker Road and East Quincy Avenue.
Gill died a short time later.
Police say Jenkins ran into Cherry Creek State Park after the accident but returned to the scene and was arrested.
Jenkins was charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, driving under the influence and careless driving, which carry sentences of up to 12 years in prison.
In addition to starting for the Broncos and Rams, Jenkins played for the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers.
He left professional football after playing for the Bills in 2002.

Really?! Sentences of UP TO 12 years in prison?! That's just not right. Slap them on the wrist, tell them not to ever do that again and let them go play outside.
